BrooklynBoy89
Right, right ... 1 plays 8 and 2 / 7 could be different. All the more reason to change it. Lol Also, trying to force rivalries hasn?t worked and won?t ever work. Try to force a pass up the middle, it gets picked off and ends up in the back of your own net. Try to force a square peg in a round hole won?t work either. Just let it all fall naturally. 2 division winners get 1-2 seeds. 3-8 fall where they may. Yeah, leave the divisions as they are, award the two winners the top 2 seeds and go from there. This ensures that if It so happens that the top 3 teams in the East are all in the same division, at least for the first round, all 3 of those teams would get home ice. It is so easy for them to make the switch to that ASAP.. doesn?t throw Off anything. We have seen far too many years already where the 2/3 matchup has 2 of the top teams in the conference facing off WAY too early.
fletch
with Seattle entering the league, opportunity to shuffle the conference/division structure and 'force' rivalries - prioritize which ones you want to keep. Also opportunity to make more radical changes to seeding and playoffs.
Sod16
1 is still usually playing 8, but the first Wild Card is often better than the No. 3 in the weaker division, so 2 frequently does not get 7. Also, the division winner who faces the first Wild Card is often not No. 2 in points. No. 2 in the stronger division is often better than the winner in the weaker division and gets shafted by having to play the No. 3 in the stronger division, who may be 3 or 4 overall. It's all messed up and presents numerous scenarios where it is advantageous to lose late in the season, which has already happened repeatedly. The idea that it is all fostering some rivalries or fan interest is inane.
