The idea that tax dollars could be returned to the people in the form of both infrastructure projects and social services isn't radical, so the opposition to this constantly confuses me.
There's plenty of literature on the downfalls of socialism.

I watched many of the Apprentice seasons and always thought he was a pompous asshole, so it's not surprising to me he'd stretch something like crowd size to paint himself in a better light. Proud of him? No, but part of me certainly respects his fight against the unrelenting media attacks. Best hope as a leader? Absolutely not, but better and still better than Hillary Clinton in my mind. I wouldn't change my vote there. The Democrats need to provide better in 2020. Sanders or other far left candidates aren't going to cut it for me, but he might garner enough vote. If one of the less "progressive" aka socialist-minded Democratic candidates, like Biden, is the choice then I'll have some thinking to do about weighing policy differences in exchange for character. And yes, I know. Creepy Joe Biden, and he's still not half as uncouth as Trump.
He can lie to himself all he wants, but to us? I have a problem with that. See, I don't really watch TV other than NYR and a few sports so I missed his whole act. I did think, however that he had enough of an 'outsiders' mentality to make a real difference. I didn't support the Clinton ticket because of what I felt was entrenchment and stale. And like you, I don't think she or Bill or a host of other presidents are all that honest either. But Trump trumps everyone in that regard.

The 2020 election is going to be something. I'm not picking a horse this early from any party or political affiliation. There is much to learn about who should lead us next but I'm certain of this, I cannot and will not vote Trump. That ship has sailed bigly. Thx for the reasonable conversation 51.

    That didn't answer my question.

Nor is it actually true. There's plenty of literature on the downfalls of communism. There's plenty of literature on the downfalls of oligarchic socialism. Democratic socialism, by and large, has not had much in the way of downfalls. Pros and cons, sure, but what system doesn't?

Heck, I wouldn't even argue to raise the tax rate. I'd probably just argue to reinvest our tax dollars in people instead of missiles.

Nah, they'll waste it on something else.

I'd be willing to pay more in taxes if it was used effectively. Now, I'd much rather give your charities or individuals in need than the government.

Well you have to be careful with that.
There have been major attempts to push much more aggressive legislation against gun ownership.

Very similar to abortion. Common sense is pushed to the back for the sake of drawing a line in the sand.

Issue is the other 20% from personal sales, gifts, transfer to family members etc

In other states too. I’ve been to gun shows in PA and MD, no one is selling you a gun without a background check.

In Trump's first 2 years the Republicans had majorities in the House and Senate, and a more favorable Supreme Court with 2 new appointees. You couldn't ask for a better political situation to get things accomplished.

Instead, Trump relies on tactics like acting cabinet heads.
    https://www.npr.org/2019/04/09/71109...administration

'The reliance on acting officials is especially acute at the Department of Homeland Security...It also amounts to an end-around of the Senate, which under the U.S. Constitution has a role to advise and consent to the president's appointments. "It's not only the Senate that's voting on them. In some very real way, it's also a public vetting that's occurring when the Senate is performing this function," says Stier. To have so many people in acting positions, he says, puts off that public review and vetting.'

IMO, this is an example of someone who finds a way to get around checks-and-balances. And look at his use of security clearances to reward those that are loyal and punish those that are not.
