What else do they need? Defensive D? Throw in Staal at 50% retained.

I mean 2/3 of a second line pushes everyone down and all of a sudden that third line one of the better ones in the league with their new assignments.

The rangers won’t get a top 2 pick. I haven’t researched many guys after that.

They’ll finish between 6-11. And they’d probably pick the same guy whether they have the 6th pick or the 15th pick.

It seems premature for that team.
But with Hayes it also comes back to whether or not they think he could be a piece for the future - its not like he's 35 and trying to make 1 more Cup run. You can trade a first for a C you know is good, or draft one you hope is good.

I'd rather have Hayes for 3-4 years as a contender than just hope that Jost/Bowers turns into a legit 2c.

exactly why they need to trade up. no one in this organization is off limits as far as im concerned besides Kravtsov and Miller for the right deal.

I think it's almost a 0 chance that any team will be able to trade into the top 2 (or 3, depending on what you think of whoever you rank #3).

A team drafting #1/2 overall is in the same boat as the Rangers. Why would they move down for a lesser prospect or two? It's not like you can trade Chytil or Lias and #7 for #2, and the vets are useless to a rebuilder.

In addition to better forward depth they need goaltending and D.
They’re letting in more goals than anyone currently in a playoff position. Significantly more in most cases. They’ve only let in 7 fewer than the Rangers ffs.
This team isn’t ready for a run yet. IMO of course.

I don’t disagree with that, merely saying this is not the time for them to flip their future for a run at the cup.

If they got a 3rd line, two top pair dmen and traded Buchnevich, Names, Staal, Shattenkirk, Smith, D'Angelo, Pionk and either Andersson or Howden they might be decent.
Almost forgot to add if Zuccs plays this way all the time and Hayes plays like he did right before his mystery injury.

Yea I mean bloggers gonna blog. Doesn't mean much. Read their comments on him and you immediately realize they don't watch Rangers games.

Thinking the same thing. I wouldn't want the Rangers to trade Hayes for Boston's 1st, and who knows if Boston would do that either. Pass.

They shouldn't. There's very little left, if anything, in their system, that the Rangers ought to be excited about.

    They do look alike.

Guy will be 23 soon. And having issues cracking the nhl on a regular basis. Is there something I’m missing, or are we continuing to target 3rd liners with 2nd line upside?

While no one could have foreseen Nash's concussion, wonder if the Bruins might be reluctant to make a big deal with NYR. They did the McQuaid thing, but Hayes would be a more Nash-like big move. Charlie McEvoy? In the grand karma scheme even with Nash, they owe us for the Rick Middleton f up.
