I'm sure they are, and I'm sure they're not getting value proposals. They'll likely want him:
1. Out of the east, or out of the division
2. Get similar talent level back, that is
3. Not expensive and/or cost controlled
And the acquiring team needs to:
1. Have assets
2. Be willing to part with them
3. Have cap space
Trades are hard. At the end of the day, fair or not, the Leafs have the leverage if Nylander wants to play in the NHL. They are winning just fine without him.
If not, he can live comfortably on a KHL or SEL salary in Sweden....
someone have a AAV calculator for this contract? A lot of the teams out west dont have the cap space to take on the higher cap hit for this season.

maybe not

Well yea. Toronto is in a tough spot going forward. Thanks Marleau. That doesn't mean Nylander isn't worth $7M just because Toronto cant afford it.

I'm not sure Pastrnak and Gaudreau are comparing apples and apples, because in a hypothetical world where they're signing new contracts now there's no way they're signing for 6.6 x 6.
That being said I think it's reasonable to question the worth of Nylander and how good he is when not playing alongside Matthews. He's obviously good, but is capable of driving his line and being "the" guy?
I'm not sure. There's a good chance a guy like Buchnevich would look incredible next to Matthews.
Well apparently there’s a testicle on the line that he would easily do it with Zib and Chytil instead of Matthews
Is there a time deadline today for him to sign or just before the end of the day?
The only thing I'm certain of is that he's not going to be traded at this point.
I think so too.
Seems unlikely they'll find a deal both parties are happy with in the 11th hour.

i would be utterly flabbergasted if Nylander sits out. Hard to believe you guys think that is the likely outcome.
I think it was Kevin McGran who reported that Anaheim would not part with Josh Manson and Nick Ritchie for Willy. I'm sure they just do not want to trade Manson, period. If they'd be willing, I'd send them Hayes and Zuc for Manson alone.
I think he'll sign on Torontos terms. He'll take the less term or money just so he can play on a contending Toronto team.

Toronto fans will lynch mgmt if they do nothing. It is that simple. They will not do that after all the team and fans went thru with the tear down. Just common sense. Shanny and Dubas are not that dumb.
They are supposed to be a Cup contender this year, right?
6 x 7m has a cap hit of 6.6 after this season.
5 x 6.5m = 6.08
If Toronto can’t pony up for that, they have to move him today. Having an asset rot on the sideline for a season is awful, especially with how they are performing.
