Give Hayes the tough defensive matchups.
Zib and Kreider are the closest thing to a first line they have. Zib is the best center they have. I really don't want to put Hayes in an even more offensive role. He can have and HAS had the top defensive match ups as the "center that doesn't get the most ice time" aka 3rd line center...

    Up that trade value Hayesie.

Without Zuccarello, #NYR practice, with Nieves and Claesson rotating in:

    Namestnikov-Zibanejad-Buchnevich
    Kreider-Hayes-Spooner
    Vesey-Howden-McLeod(!)
    Chytil-Andersson-Lettieri

    Skjei-DeAngelo
    Staal-Pionk
    Smith-Shattenkirk
Zuccarello day to day with groin injury
    Lias Andersson for #AJT2019

Chytil should really be playing center. If he’s not ready at the NHL level I don’t understand why they don’t send him down.

I don't think Chytil looks like a center at all. I'd keep him on the wing...and it has nothing to do with AHL/NHL.

I'm sure he does, he's also not an NHL hockey player, so he has that going against him as well.

It's been hard to tell since he has mostly played wing. My point still stands, if you're going to transition him to wing, then let him learn against lesser opponents.

Confidence is key for young players and he clearly has none. Let him succeed before being shifted to wing and playing 4th line minutes. It's just not the proper way to develop a 19 year old kid who you're hoping becomes a key piece to the franchise.

It's not a slight against the player, but a slight against management. He needs to do what Andersson did.

He could not be sent down as he was not eligible to play, based on medical issue (concussion)

He was cleared, so he can be sent down.

Doesn't he have to clear waivers?

    Indicates he is waiver exempt.

    But, who cares.

I like him. Could be a useful player on the 4th line

I always thought Nieves was so bland. I never noticed him do anything particularly noticable. He said in an interview that he was a fast skater. I never noticed it. He seemed like a down graded Spooner.

To Spooners credit, I thought he had a good game vs MTL. I felt bad that he had McBlob skating down with him on the 2 on 1.

I had the same thought. He was probably thinking, "Crap! I have to shovel it over to this doofus?"

I think he's a really solid skater and has good vision as a set up guy. Obviously not too 6 level, but good enough to be an NHLer. With the right coaching, I think he could be turned into a decent checking/defensive center that can be used as a special teams guy/ PK expert. Just seems like he ran out of time to develop alot sooner than expected. I mean he's only been a pro for two years. Kinda sucks they didn't give him more of a look last season.
