I have literally no idea what this is going to be like. I hope to see a Rangers team that makes a superior team fight for every inch of ice.

But I'm kind of expecting a Rangers team that will bend over and happily accept a dry bumming.

I'm definitely expecting to be seething at Jimmy Vesey at some point.

Can't believe it's finally here. Never spent as much summertime reading about, watching, and anticipating hockey - especially a team that is supposed to be this bad. I expect them to initially impress with some pluck and resolve, but that it will get pretty discouraging in fairly short order. Still predicting bottom 5-10. The deadline sell-off will be inevitable before the holidays. (Farewell, Zucc!) But let the kids get their lessons.

Wish Vesey and Names were flipped since Vesey actually looked really good with Howden.

Yeah, that was kind of a bummer. Vesey and Howden looked very in sync and were communicating a lot on the bench.

Names giveaway that resulted in a goal combined with Vesey's good final preseason game may have caused the swap. It sounds like Quinn does not plan to roll 4 lines evenly. It will be interesting to watch how he manages lines, ice time and chemistry. We should give him a few months to feel his way through it, I doubt he knows exactly how he is going to deploy and adjust, as he gets his footing in this new fast NHL.

I feel the same way. I think, despite the fact none of us expect success this year, is that a plan has been laid that is the right path and long overdue. It will be good to see how it develops and hopefully will be ultimately successful.

My only hope is that the garden management doesn't sell out during the pain and goes back to the failed strategy of quick fixes and bandaids just to get some playoff dollars rolling into the coffers.

We're excited because we are going about this rebuild with a plan. A pretty solid one that has us loading up on young prospects and picks. One that is well underway. Two well regarded rookie centers in the lineup, plus Pionk, give us some quality kids to key on.

Then there is:

Guys needing to prove themselves like Vesey, Names (away from Tampa), Lettieri.

Those needing to bounce back like Skjei, Smith, Shatty and even Zuc a little.

A couple who have to prove the end of last year was real like Hayes, Spoons, Pionk or even DeAngelo.

And the breakout candidates - Buch, Kreids and Zib

Beat me to it Slobber, Rodrigue is on point. I don't think Gorton is going to let influences like Sather or Dolan (doubt he wants a say, currently) derail the well-established plan. Unlike a few predictions you'll find on the ballsy thread, the plan is underway and we will be adding young players and picks not trading Lias or our 1st rounder next year.

Panarin may very well be a Ranger. I think he will. As a UFA signing next year.

I have to admit that in a "rebuilding" year I'm a little disappointed that all I see is Howden and Chytil in the lineup.

Seems like a quarter measure.

Patience Chief.

Need to make room for Lias and Hajek. And Lias needs the playing time. Coach wants to get DeAngelo into the lineup and can't yet. Injuries and the deadline will bring us more youngsters soon enough.

Next year the Russian invasion of Kravtsov, Shesty, Panarin, Rykov arrives.

I think to have a successful rebuild we'll need at least two of Chytill, Kravtsov, or Andersson to pan out, which is hardly a given at this point.

They'll definitely needs to make some wise decisions when it comes to free agents, especially for shoring up the pathetic defensive depth we have right now.

As usual I'll remain optimistic, but seeing the talent around the league we have a seriously long way to go before we're able to compete.

On paper, I agree, but if you pull back on the scope, you'll recognize why. The glut of the players they've drafted who are going to be, or should be, key pillars of this rebuild are simply not ready for the NHL yet. Miller, Lundqvist, Hajek, Kravstov, perhaps Andersson, Keane, etc.

This season feels like a seat warming one while those guys all gear up for serious runs at the roster next season, or later this season after the second February liquidation sale.

Typical Rangers. Always half-assing it.

Whether they are buyers or sellers or whatever, always half-in/half-out, not fully committed.
