Jim Jeffries' "This Is Me Now" on Netflix

I love Jim, but he has since gone a little too political for me. I want to have a break from that shit and just enjoy comedy. I had to punch out of his show on Comedy Central because it was the same thing every week. I hope this is more of his comedy than all politics.

He is a funny comedian, one of my top current ones. I’ve seen him 3 or 4 times and laughed my ass off. His com du has always been based on his life, and he has been hysterical. Comedy Central gave him a show but made it too political and less of his normal comedy. Watch his early specials on Netflix, they are comedy gold.

First of all, the two are not mutually exclusive. Part of his appeal is his political talk. He was made famous for his gun control bit. Trying to divorce them is like saying "man, if not for all the talk about race, Chris Rock would be really funny!"

But, to answer your question, yes. This one isn't as political as Freedumb or his earlier ones, though it doesn't NOT deal with politics, so if that's an issue, it's going to be an issue.

His gun control bit, which I do love, is not what made him. That’s something recent that he did compared to the rest of his career. His biggest bit is about his mother who is fat. That and taking his handicapped friends brother to a hooker are his best bits. While a little political talk is funny, I don’t like an entire show of it. He is a very funny comedian and doesn’t need to do it. Him talking about being a new dad was one of his best newer jokes.

He admits in this special that his gun control bit launched his career. By every measurable statistic, that's true. It's the highest rated, most viewed video of his on YouTube, and Google searches for his name in relation to it are higher than anything else.

I've followed his career since his first HBO standup. While I agree there are funnier bits than gun control, that's unequivocally what launched his career, and why he focuses so much on the political side of things. It's also why Comedy Central gave him a political show to cover news and exposes every week. You may not like it, but he's a political comedian. Perhaps not quite in the vein of Bill Maher, but his contemporaries are definitely the Trevor Noah's of the world. It won't entirety encompass his range, but it's going to be a major entry point to his comedy for as long as he continues to do it. Just like Ricky Gervais.

I’ve been following him since the early 2000’s, and I have seen him recently, like 2 years ago when he played the Paramount, and his live act only had his gun control bit, he wasn’t really that political. He only became really political once He got his show. I hope he returns to his roots because he was a very funny comedian. I’ve met him a couple of times as welll, and he is a very genuine person. He used to do O and A a lot, and I loved his show on FX.

I just watched this, it was great. Jim went back to his roots here. BBBE, I loved when he got into a fight with the porn star on O and A years ago. That’s was great. He is one of my top comedians. I’m so glad he went back to doing his act the way he used to.
