Rangers Re-Sign F Boo Nieves to 1-Year/$708K Extension

Is this his last shot ? Whenever people talk about the Rangers future his name is never mentioned.

It?s interesting IMO. He started well last year, but quickly turned uninspiring as his productivity fell off a cliff. I expect a better Boo this year; but is there room for home to get a look at 4C, even temporarily, I guess we?ll find out. But yes, I?m guessing last shot? unless he grabs onto and holds management?s attention. He?s more experienced now, which gives him an advantage over complete rookies. There?s a logjam of better centers above him. Maybe we Will we see other centers take on a wing role? I don?t know. Depth with a chance to impress?

Given he's turning 25 this year, probably. At least with the Rangers. He's an RFA again next season though, so they could just move him to another team willing to give him a better shot to make the NHL.

He got a lot of time last year, and early on there was a genuine stretch of 4th line competence. But I kept looking for real flashes of brilliance, either in terms of skills or raw desire and didn't see any. The is a good one year move, but primarily to help manage the needs of prospects higher up the list. Bet he ships out after this one, either as a throw-in or to seek greener pastures.

I think Boo will look a lot better playing under Quinn than AV. He's a more straight line style player and if Quinn can get any aggression out of him, he should be pretty consistently good on the forecheck.

Agreed but competition will be pretty swift this camp. He?s gonna have to come out with a lot of energy. My pick for the 4thbline C position for sure.

I agree. Especially because his underlying numbers with AV weren't bad at all.

I think a lot of it depends on whether or not they're willing to give limited minutes to Chytil/Howden/Andersson on the 4th line, or would prefer them to be in the AHL getting 20.

Boo has always looked the part of an NHL player, but just hasn't really been the right fit here or had much of an opportunity.

I liked his game better than DD last year. I think he could be a 4th line player, as stated elsewhere, with more structure. I was kind of confused when he was demoted last season. Either way, it's good to have all these guys in camp. Quinn doesn't have any preconceived notions about any of these guys so hopefully he's just picking the players that perform best.

I can?t remember a single shift of DD?s last season. Highly and very easily replaceable.

A bottom dollar 1yr/2-way contract doesn't indicate particularly high esteem on the part of management. But I'd certainly be happy to see him exceed expectations.

Well, I think just the fact that they re-signed him is a good sign. A minimum offer for a guy who hasn't made a mark in the NHL is what it is.

He’s got a chance but he’s definitely not a sure shot for 4C in my opinion.

I see it as a perfect spot for him and the team. I don't want to see Andersson, Howden or Chytil wasting away on a 4th line.

Nieves can only improve on what hasn't been that bad of a run in the NHL, given the circumstances (AV). If he's given an honest shot, and put in situations that suite his skills, yet fails... Well then, that's on him, or tough luck. It's a spot they can afford to try out a last chance player like Nieves. If anything they may gain a reliable speedy center whom may be able to be a pk specialist ala Dom Moore. A useful 4th liner.

OMG, you were doin so good until you mentioned the most useless player in Rangers history. Domonic Moore was more worthless then McIlraths dinkleberry. How that turd continued to play in the NHL is more in question then the signing of McCleod.
