I heard the rangers rated him the second best ufa forward available after Tavares

I mean, I'd care a lot less if it was a one-year contract under $900K for an actual hockey player.

How many times have you said to "embrace the tank"?

Embracing the tank ≠ saddling developing players with shitty players.

I'm all for strategic loss, but I don't want it coming at the cost of young players finding their best game.

Sure, I don't want him on a line with Andersson either. But if Andersson is gonna be on the 4th line, I'd rather have him play 20+ a night in Hartford.

Beleskey - Nieves - McLoed 4th line. Problem solved.

Which could have been avoided by not signing a plug. Allowing for a 14-mimute-a-night fourth line of Beleskey, Andersson, and whomever.

Nah. On a playoff team sure, give a kid some sheltered 4th line minutes. Not on a rebuilding team though. Top 9 or Hartford.

I am floored. Someone previously posted that they had re-signed this guy as an April Fools joke, and everyone immediately identified it as such! What a bone headed move. It's not harmless. Every minute he plays is a minute someone else is not playing. He was absolutely terrible during an extended try out last year. Why? Why?

I don't think he actually signed a contract, Gorton just grunted at him and he can skate like the wind.

Why is everyone freaking out? If he even makes the team I doubt he sees any significant time to even matter in the long run. Plus that cap hit is nothing.

Besides we’re clearly aiming for that first overall pick

Because it's July and freaking out over 4th liners is annual summer tradition here.

Ita also a contract against the team that we don't need.

Which is still not a defense of giving McLeod one.

John McEnroe (a Rangers fan) reacts to Jeff Gorton's signing of Cody Mcleod

Why are we freaking out? Because when the GM re-signs the least effective player in a Rangers uniform in anyone's memory, it says something about the GM that has onerous implications for the franchise.

Yea... if it was a 6 year deal at $5mil I’d freak out but this is an insignificant signing which can easily be buried and will probably not affect anything at all this season. If he plays more than 20 games I’ll be surprised and give you rep.

Onerous implications for the franchise? It's one year!
