confirmed: TBL Re-Sign F J.T. Miller to 5-Year/$26.25M Extension; $5.25M AAV

The Tampa Bay Lightning have re-signed forward J.T. Miller to a five-year contract worth $5.25 million per season, vice president and general manager Steve Yzerman announced today.

Assuming this takes TB out of the John Tavares sweepstakes? From what I read previously Miller would have been on the move if TB signed Tavares

So what does Hayes now get ? I'm sort of surprised they did this as they have an interest in Tavares, so does this take them out of it ?

This isn't a dangerous contract at all.

What Josh is alluding to is the theory that it's almost never your $7 and $8 million guys that get you into cap trouble ? it's the $4 and $5 million ones.

I'd take Miller (1.25 retained) + prospect + 1st for Spooner

nevermind, I thought it was a 3-year deal.

He will probably earn that contract based on regular season production, at least if he's playing with Stamkos and Kucherov again. He may even outperform the contract with those guys. But given his poor playoff performance and subsequent demotion from playing with those guys, I guess we will find out if they plan on giving him 1st line minutes again out of the gate.

Yup. the guy that was a " bust " in NYC, 1st round pick, 25 yrs. old. Productive, physical, etc. tossed aside like yesterday's trash signs a lucrative contract. WTG JT. You'll be more appreciated in Tampa by the fans than you were @ MSG & beyond.

To think that a team could actually have Stamkos, Tavares, Point, Kucherov, Hedman, McDonagh, Stralman, Sergachev makes me scared. Our team next year shouldn't even play in the same league as that team.

Except he already showed through 20 games his is good enough for that.

For the last 19 games of the season, when a lot of teams actually try to lose. When facing tough opponents in the playoffs he had 2 goals in 17 games and was actually moved off the 1st line.

 

Everyone can ride shotgun with Stammer and Kuch and put up points, so he's contract will most likely look like a steal when he ends up with 65-70p because of the other two on the line, but if the plan is to have Miller on the top line for another playoff run they will face the same fate as this year. He's a playoff choker and at the end of the day, the playoffs is all that counts.

I don?t mind Miller but he remains on a long list of ex-Rangers who disappear come playoff time. I guess his solid (sometimes erratic) regular season performances warrants ~5 million per year in today?s NHL.

I'm not, but IDGAF really LOL. He's not getting paid like a first liner, so I'm not sure what your issue is, other than you just don't like the player. That's fine.

FWIW JT doesn?t have to be a ?1st line winger? to slot in there and be effective. And that?s basically what it comes down to for him and that contract. He?s got 5 seasons to fix his playoff problems with a new team. He put up points here with less talent. The contract is fair IMO
