Where's Wheeler? Thought he was a shoe in.

Hall's to lose, IMO. He did the most with the least. But MacKinnon was a monster, too. I don't think you can really go wrong with either.

It's between Hall and McKinnon for me, and I definitely advocated to give it to McKinnon not only 1-2 months ago, but Hall literally carried his team to the playoffs. By definition, that's the award.

So did mackinnon? Even scored the GWG in the last game of the regular season to clinch the playoff spot.

MacKinnon has more support in Rantanen and Landeskog. Hall has Miles Wood.

On could make a case that MacKinnon actually made those guys better.

Hall didn't really elevate the guys around him.

That’s true. And I advocated quite heavily to give the award to MacKinnon a couple months ago, but still.

I don't understand, it's a trophy to pick the 4th or 5th best player in the league? That's pretty much what this is.

None of these. It's between McJesus and Giroux for me.

    Exactly.

Is it the Most Valuable Player In The League Award?

    or

The Most Valuable Player To A Team Whom Without That Player Likely Would Not Have Qualified For The Post-Season Award?

It's not the MVP of the league though. It's awarded to the most valuable player to HIS TEAM.
So yes, McDavid is incredibly important to his team, but is he putting them in the best position to win? It's quite clear that even with all of his talent and putting up 108 points this season, he's valuable, no doubt. But he didn't make his team good enough to bring them to the playoffs.
Don't know why Giroux wasn't nominated.

Sure, doesn't change the fact he's far and away the best player in the world, but hey, Anze Kopitar.

You're actually 100% correct, I'm in the wrong.

Now I just think it's a dumb award.

It's a lot more subjective than MVP of the league, that's for sure. The Lindsey is more or less MVP of the league, for which McDavid is indeed nominated.

He's certainly the best point producer in the NHL. And he'll win the scoring title and maybe the Richard one day.

But that's not what this award is.

    Crosby > McDavid currently.
As much as I hate the fucking crybaby, he has three cups under his belt and an NHL tenure resume that is just insane. The dude wins. McDavid - give him a few years and let's see what his legacy leaves us.
Yes, he's fucking great, but we can't coin him the best player in the world yet, not while Crosby is still playing at this level.
    Not. Even. Close.

    Still Crosby’s title.

I'd go Mackinnon, although I can see the argument for giving it to Hall.
    They're both worthy winners imo.
