Miller for Namestnikov is a wash. Mcdonagh had to bring back more "can't miss" potential. Doesn't seem like they accomplished that. Rangers lost this trade from a value standpoint. We obviously will not know the results of this trade for a while, but today it stings.

Considering the rumor of amount of pieces required for Mac was around 7, how is this a haul?

Howden is basically the Canadian Andersson with more size.

I’m just happy these two are gone. These are big names to be trading and it signals that management has put their money where their mouths are and moved on. Bottom line is the team hasn’t been nearly good enough for many years and this is a nice reset to some core pieces. Let’s hope these guys we got back can do something.

This is what I was wondering too. None of them are UFA’s, it must be based on how deep they go in the playoffs.

There is no joy in Mudville, mighty Gorton has struck out.

No way No way No way do you give up McD and Miller without getting their top prospect.

Gorton was just too committed to trading McD and doing it now (nice letter). It clearly undermined his bargaining position and Stevie knew it. This reminds me of when the Red announced that they would not give up any of their starting 8 players for Seaver and the Mets caved and got "prospects" who turned into little.

Because fans / media overrate trades.

In Howden you get a known entity that's worth more than a low 1st round pick gamble when you already have 2.

2nd rounder becomes a first rounder if they win the cup this year or next year as per XM Radio

People will feel he same way about this deal as they did about the 2017 draft.

I mean, after this draft we'll likely have the best system in the NHL.

This is exactly what was trying to be accomplished.

Howden is that. He's a gold medal team Canada captain and overall C powerhouse. Think Andersson, but slightly better.

Completely unsurprising that this board is miserable with the deal. Miller and Namestnikov as a wash, the Rangers just got a former 1st round forward, a former 2nd round defenseman, a 1st rounder and a 2nd that could turn into a 1st for McDonagh. You set yourselves up for disappointment expecting what Yzerman said what wasn't available. That's a solid and hefty haul.

3 1sts in a real deep, strong, draft. I'm good with that too.
