Giacomin Posted February 9, 2018 Share Posted February 9, 2018 No. No kids will be locks. Gorton even said on a radio interview that they are key pieces and he will not have them rushed. He will be patient with their development. He won't wait too long, but won't force them. They are kids and not even fully physically done growing. The frontal lobe of their brain is still developing. He hinted that we will see them at the end of the year. Reading between the lines, just enough games to not use a year of their eligibility. Now guys 21, 22, 23... need to be forced ionto the lineup to sink or swim. Graves has little to nothing to gain in the AHL next year, same for Nieves. If they primarily get draft picks in the sell off, there is going to be an issue about having NHL ready players to fill the roster next year. Essentially sure not to be on opening night roster: Nash, Grabner, Holden, Desharnais, Carey, McCloud, Kampfer. Questionable for opening night roster: McD, Zuch, Lettieri, Pionk, Smith, Lundquist, Pavelek. Surprise not on the opening night roster: a couple of guys not mentioned above. If getting rid of all of those folks currently on the roster yields one-third NHL ready players and two-thirds picks, who the heck is going to fill all of the spots? Forget opening roster, who is at Camp? Forget camp, what happens in the early off season? Forget that, let's see what happens this month! Let's enjoy this journey, we know it is a rebuild. Hopefully not too painful, but hope will helps us be patient. Hope is represented by the returns we get from our 2 best players this year and our captain. Each event/deal shapes the next. Keep it simple. Win every period, every shift. How about 1 good trade to start us off. Let's get this show on the road. Show me the hope. As for Chytil and Andersson, the decision should be based purely on the merit of what is best for the player's development. If the guy is ready, don't hold him back. Don't let need force the move.
