[RS] (#50) Rangers @ San Jose Sharks // We're Gonna Need a Bigger Boat

Giving Phil a break!! =)

Here we go gang!! Trying to NOT go WINLESS on this disaster of a trip:

Rangers (24-20-5, 53 pts) at Sharks (26-14-7, 59 pts)

10:30 pm; SAP Center, San Jose

MSG 2; ESPN 1050 AM

The Game

The Rangers look to snap out of a three-game losing streak as they close out their four-game road trip in San Jose.

New York is coming off a 6-3 loss to the Ducks Tuesday night, a game that saw Rick Nash score twice but Henrik Lundqvist allow three first period goals before being relieved for Ondrej Pavelec.

With no practice on Wednesday, the status of Kevin Hayes is unknown, though the team is scheduled to have a morning skate in San Jose Thursday morning. Hayes took part in the morning skate Tuesday in Anaheim but missed his six consecutive game with a contusion.

It is also unknown who will start in goal for the Rangers. Lundqvist has started all three games on this trip thus far, but with such a short outing Tuesday, coach Alain Vigneault could return to Lundqvist for the final game before the All-Star break.

The Sharks got the better of the Rangers in their only prior meeting of the season back on Oct. 23 at Madison Square Garden, which San Jose took 4-1.

San Jose enters tonight's game second in the Pacific Division, nine points behind Vegas and three up on Calgary. The Sharks are 5-2-3 in their last 10 and are coming off a 5-4 shootout loss against the Jets Tuesday night.

There's plenty of familiar faces leading the Sharks offensively, with Brent Burns atop the list with 39 points in 47 games, followed by Joe Thornton's 36. Logan Couture and Joe Pavelski are both tied with 34 on the year, including Couture's team-high 18 goals.

San Jose's goaltending duo of Martin Jones and Aaron Dell has been strong, with 14 and 12 wins, respectively. Dell has a .923 SV% with a pair of shutouts and had won his previous four starts, including the last three with Jones out day-to-day with an injury.

Players to Watch

Nash said after being held off the scoresheet for the first two games of this road trip, Nash broke out with a pair of goals against the Ducks to give him six in his last five games. Nash has tallied 18 points (14 goals, four assists) in his last 24 games against San Jose, as well as nine goals in his last 16 contests against the Sharks.

As stated, Dell has stepped in nicely in Jones' absence. The 28-year-old hasn't lost a game in regulation since Nov. 18, and is in the top-10 in save percentage and goals against this season.

Inside the Numbers

The Rangers have earned at least one point in five of their last seven meetings against San Jose, dating back to Oct. 19, 2014 (4-2-1 record over the span).

Where's my fucking line-ups?

There's been a change in the roster today Dunny!

We called up some Women Pro's to take the place of some of our roster players in order to play tougher; I'm working on getting their names for you.

So far I have the following:

Sister Mary Ginsberg - Center 5' 4" (Harvard)

Mother Theresa Karpotsov - Defense 5' 7" (Russian Elite team)

Regina Dunlop - LW 5' 1" (Charlestown) ...you may have heard of her dad?

...more to follow!!

I'll be home in time from teaching an Adult Ed course at OCCC Newburgh tonight - "Real Estate Auction 101" -- and will have a cold beer in hand by 9:50. Looking forward to a strong bounce-back win, or absent that, an absolute arse-kicking loss. NO OT OR SHOOTOUT PLEASE - we all need our rest.

I totally see them winning this one! Just to spite us all!! LOL
