Chris Kreider Out Indefinitely With Blood Clot

The Rangers' 1-0 shoout victory over the Washington Capitals tonight might have come at a significant cost to the Blueshirts.

@NYRangers: AV says Kreider is out with an upper body injury and that more information should be available tomorrow at practice. #NYR

Kreider left the game with an undisclosed injury and didn't return after logging just 5:01 of ice time through the first period. Worse yet, Vigneault's postgame update on the matter just barely qualified as such, classifying the mysterious injury as "upper-body".

Of course, wouldn't expect anything else but the "upper-body" injury

Well we know he wasn’t the one who initiated the contact when receiving this upper body injury.

Vinny Lettieri to be recalled form Hartford, so this must be serious.

He leaves the ice with 20 seconds left in the first. The Rangers are cycling in the zone. He took a small crosscheck under the left arm from Skjei, and he goes down. Cant tell if he takes a random elbow on the way to the ice. He jumps back up and skates to the bench.

Maybe, yeah. Though it could still be short-term. Lettieri is waivers exempt, so bringing him and sending him right back down again is entirely possible and wouldn't risk anything but fuel.

I wonder if he broke a rib or something.

Just getting hit wrong could do that, even if it looks fairly innocuous.

Could be, but it was detected early and his has no history that we know of at least. The only thing that might be concerning is that they said it was spontaneous, which to me means it didn't occur from getting hit and breaking a blood vessel.

With a blood clot? I've never heard of anyone coming back that quickly, though I suppose it might depend on the severity of the clot. Stamkos was out two and a half months with his. Dupuis and Vokoun lost their careers to theirs.

It depends how it was caused. If it was from getting hit it would be better than if it were chronic. It'll take 3-4 weeks for it to go away. He probably still has to take thinners for another few weeks and can't play under those meds.
