Isles Awarded Belmont Site for New Arena

Sadly, the political hacks prevented the then owner, Charles Wang from renovating the Coliseum with HIS money and expanding the site. Now they are moving to Queens. Well, Queens is actually part of Long Island or vice versa.
Belmont Park is right on the border.

I think the part where they are going to allow the Icelanders to build the NEW MAUSOLEUM for their 3500 fans is on the Nassau side in beautiful scenic Elmont, a place that makes the Devils home in Newark look elegant.

In an unusual arrangement, the NHL team will split time between the Coliseum and its current home at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn for at least three years while a new arena is built at Belmont Park, a source said.

Gov. Cuomo, team officials, and the NHL are scheduled to make an announcement at the Coliseum on Monday morning.

Newsday reported the team next season will play 12 regular-season home games at Nassau Coliseum, with the expectation that will grow to half its home games in the remaining seasons before the new arena opens. The rest will be played in Brooklyn.

Kind of sounds like a logistical nightmare for scheduling purposes and a pain in the ass for the Islander players.
