Chytil's replacement on the roster...? We need another 4th liner if Desharnais will be the 3C.

    Rangers claim RW Adam Cracknell

Meh... why not give Lettieri a chance? I’ve only seen Cracknell play a handful of times. Is he even worth it or just a plug?

Physical presence that "can" kill penalties, is my guess.

Honestly, the 4th line is one of the places I think the Rangers will struggle. They need a checking line, not 4 "skilled" lines. You need to be able to wear down the other team's D. You need to be able to cycle the puck. You need to be able to defend and possess the puck.

I don't know anything about this guy but if he changes the look of the 4th line, I'm all for it. 4 lines playing the same exact style is not an effective strategy.

Sort of, yeah. Had ten goals for the Stars last season, though. Good, physical fourth-line player. More reliable than Glass (away from the puck).

All of which you can do with skill. Size and strength can play a factor there, but not in the traditional "bruise them to beat them" sense. You can't hit guys who don't have the puck, so it makes sense to add strong bottom-six players who can play with the puck. They can help you develop a fourth line similar to the fourth lines of old, except one that plays in the other team's end instead of their own.

    Thanks Phil

Glad he might turn out to more than a no talent goon like Glass

I mean, that's the hope. I really wouldn't compare them. Glass is much more of a traditional enforcer, albeit one with exceptional skating ability (and not much else). Cracknell has bounced around a lot, but he’s probably something more like what Mike Rupp was. Late bloomer.

This guy is 32 and has been on 6 teams now. How have I never heard of him? Oh well. Hope he plays well tonight.

If any should be retired, it's 25.

Ideally, every team in the league would have 4 lines that can play the same style. You can't roll 4 if they can't all play the same style.

The reason 4th lines are often physical grinders is because they don't have skill. You wear defenses down with skill far easier than physicality, especially when 4th liners are really only going to be on the ice against the opponent's third pair. There's no stress on defensemen - or opponents in general - when they know an entire line isn't going to score.

I really didn't expect much from a guy claimed off of waivers.
