Karlsson Reveals He Had Half His Ankle Bone Removed in Surgery

As he inches closer to recovery, Erik Karlsson revealed a rather unbelievable aspect of his offseason foot surgery Wednesday.

@PxPOttawa: Karlsson just told reporters doctors removed half of his ankle bone in the surgery.

The Ottawa Senators captain went under the knife in June to repair torn tendons in his foot, an injury he sustained during the playoffs.

Karlsson is skating with the Senators, but the timeline on a possible return is still unclear.

"We’ll see how the next few weeks go along and we know he’ll be back before Christmas, and we hope it’s in October," general manager Pierre Dorion told Sportsnet's "Tim & Sid" on Tuesday.

Well there is three main bones that make up the ankle joint. The doctor probably was referring to shaving one of those bone joints. Since it was a foot injury, I'm guessing it was the Talus.

Back to hockey. It is going to be a lift for Ottawa to make the playoffs again in a competitive east. They get to play the next few months w/o the best Dman in the game and his partner is gone too. Ceci gets moved to the #1 pair with xxx? This is a serious problem for the Sens.

Not just that. His ability is very much due to his skating. Quick, agile, explosive moves and amazing edge work is a large part of his success. This injury most likely will have effect on his entire career here in out
