Report: Rangers Are Among Finalists for Alex Kerfoot

According to Larry Brooks of the New York Post, the Rangers are among the final “two or three teams” that Harvard free agent center Alex Kerfoot is considering:

The Rangers are among the final two or three teams under consideration by Harvard free-agent center Alex Kerfoot, The Post has learned.

J.P. Barry, the 23-year-old center’s agent who confirmed the parties’ mutual interest, told The Post that Kerfoot likely would reach a decision no later than Tuesday following a weekend of reflection.
As Andrew Keenan highlighted back on August 12th, Kerfoot, along with Butcher and Toninato (who signed with the Avalanche) are class leaders for a very small group of free agents who were made available on August 16th.

I always felt confident that Vesey was going to join us last year. This time around, even though the odds are better, I don't have the same feeling. I think he ends up elsewhere...although that would be disappointing.

I don't know much about him. Would he be coming in with a good chance of making the roster or needs a year in the A?

I'd say a good chance of making the roster. Drew (a Penalty) did a great write up on him here, but the tl;dr version says he's a good bottom-six NHL center with solid playmaking skills. He's not a dynamo offensively or defensively, but he should be able to offset the Fast injury displacement issue to start the season at the very least.

Makes a ton of sense right now to me. Would be interesting to see the obvious pairing of him and Vesey. Hayes & Vesey never really panned out but Kerfoot has much more playing time with Vesey (I believe) compared to Hayes and last years situation. Might help the transition to the NHL a little knowing the way your linemate plays.

According to this Vancouver writer Kerfoot won't be joining Vancouver due to a logjam at the center position. Maybe our chances are even better than I thought.

I wonder if AV has the balls to go Zib - Hayes - Lias - Kerfoot/Nieves down the middle. If Desharnais sucks, they're better off going with youth.

Completely. Would love to see this, but I'm still not convinced they rush Andersson. I think he makes his debut this year, just not sure I see him as a regular playing more than 25 games. Would love him to come in and make the team full time though.

At 1 year/1 mil they better not feel obligated to hold on to him just because.

According to Arthur Staple, it's down to the Rangers and the Sharks for Kerfoot's decision.

I'll wait for something more concrete.

I mean, I can't say I know that they're making something up, just that there's no track record there to give credibility.

I hear Colorado from Joe Fortunato on Twitter -- bummer, just bummer

Now, perhaps Kerfoot going to Colorado helps prompt a Duchene trade, but still not sure I see NYR going down that road.
