The Arizona Coyotes saw rookie defenseman Jakob Chychrun shine in his first NHL season this past year, entering the NHL as an 18-year-old and immediately making an impact on the ice for the Pacific Division club.

While there were hopes he?d come into the upcoming season ready to improve even further, though, it appears that there?s a chance he may not be able to do that immediately.

The team announced on Thursday that Chychrun suffered a knee injury during offseason training this week, and has undergone surgery to repair the issue. He currently has an no set timetable for return, although the team confirmed they?ll update the situation at training camp in a month.

A native of Boca Raton, Florida, Chychrun was drafted 16th overall by the Coyotes at the 2016 NHL Entry Draft out of the OHL?s Sarnia Sting.

Dear Coyotes,

Might we interest you in Nick Holden?
