But I agree.. Hayes is 25, Bozak is 31.. When looking at similar players, the guy on right side of 30 has more value every day of the week.

Not to mention Hayes has about half the cap hit and will be a RFA compared to Bozak about to be a UFA.

Hayes and bozak are about to have similar production this season.

And it's pretty clear yet guys wouldn't take that package or you would have said no instead of doing everything but answer the question

    Still apples to oranges.

Having center depth is more important than worrying about Holden as a 7th defenseman IMO.

It's a hypothetical. Look from Torontos POV.

Hayes is 25 and Bozak is 31 in the last year of his contract.

They don't have anywhere close to the same value. I mean, would Jacob Voracek and Mitch Marner get the same return in a trade? Their production is about the same.

Except people have answered the question. I wouldn't trade Hayes for Bozak straight up, so Hayes for Holden is a no and has nothing to do with Bozak. Hayes has more value than Bozak dues to his age, cap hit, and RFA status. You also need to factor in team composition and needs, which make Holden more valuable to Toronto than to us.

What's the Return for Golden Holden?

Another way of saying - waving the white flag?

What can we get from Chicago, their up against the cap and only have 5 d-men. They may be more desperate than Toronto.

I'd be all for that, but he's pretty close to untouchable for Chicago if there isn't a center going back.

Yeah, Chicago needs Anisimov, as their center depth isn't excellent. Toews, Anisimov, Schmaltz, Kero, maybe they'll put Sharp at center, but I doubt it.
So they're unfortunately not a good trade partner.
    Out: Girardi, Klein, Stepan, Raanta
    In: Shattenkirk, Desharnais, Pavalec, DeAngelo/Bereglazalov/Pionk

To me, 6th dman is going to be more important to this team than 1 4th line player/13th forward.
I'll try to add my piss poor 2 cents to help fix that, lol.

    Brooks or no brooks,
I didn't make the same assumption as the OP, and I also thought it was a kind of precocious to make it a foregone conclusion.

My thinking is the guy produced — there's always a market for that. Trajectory is fair; there's a much tighter market for defensemen, IMO. He can fill a bunch of roles,
Other teams not necessarily contending might see even more value in him. Also I still don't think our blueline is deep. Deep with defensive questionmarks maybe.
If n ya gots jowls, they might as well be furry ones.
