I like it. Puts pressure on both Halverson and Pavelec.

Yeah, if he can dominate at the AHL level there's not much in the way of potentially backing Hank in the season after next.

What's the deal with Shestyorkin these days?

Wouldn't he be the heir apparent? or did something get derailed somewhere/when?

    https://bluelinestation.com/2017/06/...ake-lundqvist/

The top goalie prospect is Shestyorkin, the 21-year-old Russian. He has one full season in the KHL under his belt and is signed for two more years. Shestyorkin was an eye-popping 27-4-6 in the regular season for St. Petersburg, with a GAA of 1.64 and a save percentage of .937. It was an outstanding season.

Scouts rave about Shestyorkin’s athleticism and quick reflexes. He is an excellent puck handler and can move from post to post in a flash. He has some positional issues and has been known to lose his composure at times, but these are things that should correct with coaching and maturity. The skills are there.

Shestyorkin can’t play in North American until at least 2019-2000 when Lundqvist will have two seasons left on his contract. If he did come west that season, he would be 23, the same age as Lundqvist when he left Sweden.

He's under contract in the KHL for a few more seasons. When his deal expires, he's likely to come to North America as Hank's career/contract are dwindling. My guess is he steps in as a 20-30 game back-up, and may eventually split starts toward the final year or so of Hank's deal/career. A passing of the torch.

Bit of an up and down first year in NA so far, but playing well lately. 5 straight wins (1 in a relief appearance). 2 shutouts and a .962 SV% in that stretch.

Good, now let's see if he can find some consistency in the next couple of months.
