Always seemed like a good guy and was willing to stick up for teammates. Had a few good seasons, here as well. Definitely exceeded my expectations. Solid defender and his contract was never an issue, either.

That's $2.9 million more in cap relief.

If only we could convince Staal to retire.

Solid team mate and was a gritty guy in his prime. Had some surprisingly big goals as a Ranger too. Enjoyed seeing him on the team. Shame his body went downhill so quickly. All the best Kleiner!

He deteriorated into a non-NHL player last season, probably fueled by that nagging back injury, but he was such a great presence for a few years. A lot like Smith.

I wrote a "funeral pyre" for him celebrating his physicality back when it was rumored he would retire. To me, nothing highlights his Rangers career better than this clip:

Official: Kevin Klein Announced His Retirement

After ten NHL seasons and four with the New York Rangers, as suspected, right handed defenseman Kevin Klein has called it an NHL career. Klein came to the Rangers at the trade deadline of the 2013/14 season in exchange for Micheal Del Zotto. He skated in 224 regular season contests with the Rangers, scoring 22 goals and adding 50 assists. In the playoffs, he was a part of the Rangers' 2013/14 run to the Stanley Cup Final and played in a total of 45 postseason games with the Blueshirts. In addition to his strong defensive play, Klein brought a physical edge that has often been lacking on the Rangers' blueline in recent years. This helped make him a fan favorite, even in as a depth defenseman.

Big fan of Klein, solid defender, fighter, had a rough last season unfortunately. One of my fave Rangers over the past few years.

What a fuckin guy! Played his heart out every game. Too bad the back problems ruined him, but thanks for the cap relief.

I'll miss him. With Girardi, Stepan and Klein we've lost three veterans with leadership qualities, two of them were assistant captains. Not quite sure who'll step into their shoes.

Only player I've had the pleasure of meeting face to face. Was a true gent and a great player IMO. Very underrated for a year or two there. Good luck Kevin.

See? Man buns make you weak. It was that damn man bun. He was all fine until he grew that stupid thing.

Thanks for being a real hockey player Mr Klein. Never doubted your efforts or ability. Would like to hear a definitive reason for his early retirement.. Ah well. It's going to help the Rangers.

He was a damn good pick up and had some nice years here. I really appreciated his game, solid defenseman with an edge. His game declined quickly but that happens when you play the way he did, leaving everything he had on the ice. Thanks Kleiner!

Wouldn't be surprised if he sits for a year, begins thinking that he may have left a little early, the body begins to come around and he tries to come back with someone. But he was a big reason for the Rangers run to the Stanley Cup Finals, just wasn't enough.
