    Apparently only 7.7 million left in cap space. Zibbs at 5 and Fast at 2.5 puts us right up against the cap. Klein retiring and/or dumping Holden would free up some but not enough to do anything else major.

    @CapFriendly: W/ Shattenkirk at 6.65M and Pavelec at 1.3M, we show the #Rangers with 8.35M in cap space (9F 8D 2G)

    8.35 with 4 more forwards to sign. I'm guessing Zeb and Fast take most of that, do not much wiggle room.

    If you dump Holden and Klein retires then you have to go get a defensemen who will cost around 750k-1m range anyways that or 1 of Graves/DeAngelo are sitting in the box every night as the 7th and i dont see why the Rangers would want their young dmen in a 7th role -- Better off just hanging onto Holden at 1.65 unless your getting overpaid for his value.

    5.9 to play with, but that leaves with only 6 defenseman signed, 2 goaltenders, and 10 forwards.
    Need 3 more forwards and one defenseman to complete roster

    A New Rochelle native and now he is playing in front of his " home town " fans. Hopefully he becomes what everyone is anticipating. If not, he'll be the next whipping boy. Defense is looking prettttttyyyyyyyy good.

    That type of a contract will be easy to move, unless he has NTC.

    I don't get it. I know Shattenkirk went after the Rangers but I don't understand, Hayes and Zibanejad as our centers? LOL. Now Miller has to play in the middle as our 3rd?

    What the actual fuck? Dumpster diving for two Centermen?

    No, my 5.9 was with 11 forwards. Kampfer can be the 7th D at $650k

    I like the Girgorenko idea.

    The fact that he is only signed until he is 32, and at a manageable cap hit for the value he provides makes this potentially one of our best free agent signings. We're not tied up with big money on any aging defender except for Staal, now.

    Unreal. We've heard of a hometown discount before but I don't know if we've ever seen one like this. Great great signing. Best I can remember in a while

    Yes capgeek shows 9 forwards signed. My estimated $5.9m was after resigning Zib and Fast. After resigning them we'll have 11 signed forwards.

    @frank_seravalli: Shattenkirk details #NYR:
    NMC + Mod-NTC
    2017-18: $8M
    2018-19: $7.6M
    2019-20: $7M
    2020-21: $4M (incl $2M SB lockout protection)
    AAV: $6.65M

    --

    I know a big stink is going to be made of the NMC/NTC, but if I haven't driven this home yet, I'll try again — they're a form of currency, especially in UFA that premium free agents will not sign a deal without. Especially not in a deal like this where he clearly left years and millions on the table.

    So two more forwards and one defenseman need to be signed, (you removed Holden and Klein)

    It's funny and sad that his deal has some sort of lockout protection

    Most long-term contracts being signed now have them. Players are smart.

    No problem with an NMC in this case. The guy wants to live and play in NY...he wanted to be sure he isn't moved on a whim and in exchange he gave up years and $$$.
