    Another non-defensive defenseman.

Everything about Shattenkirk screams "bad deal." He'll get too much money for too many years and in 3 seasons we'll be hoping to trade him for a bag of pucks just like we are with Girardi and Staal. Let Skjei be your Shattenkirk. Give him more minutes and more responsibility and let him grow.

On paper Shattenkirk's name looks good, but in reality, it's not something we should be going after. Get younger. Make a trade for someone if you can. Something like the Zib deal last summer.

I think this is sound reasoning, but what are the options for right handed defensemen? We have not one. I imagine Shattenkirk is easily the best one available, and maybe the only one capable of providing us with big minutes with McD.

Not sure what the obsession is with a Dman being right handed. If the guy is good, it shouldn't matter if he's a lefty or a righty. Singing someone to a 6-7m dollar deal because he's right-handed is dumb. Very very dumb. If shooting the puck is the problem, put a right-shot forward on the PP.

It's not obsession. It's tactics and having small advantages on the ice in specific situations.

It's also difficult to find players who excel on their off side.

Shattenkirk makes sense, but these deals just never work out as hoped. Also, defensively the guy is pretty bad, and our main issue has been keeping the puck out of the net at key times
