Steven Valiquette on WFAN w/ Joe and Evan

    4/27

    - MTL was a swarming team
    - OTT will be aggressive but they will be different in the neutral zone, they'll be a 1-3-1 neutral zone trapping team
    - OTT is a painful team to watch, they are a slow game
    - OTT can play a 2-3 also, almost as frustrating as a 1-3-1
    - NYR will have to manage the puck real well, Kreider, Vesey, Grabner will have to fly to break the OTT trap
    - NYR have to do work when they get into the OTT zone, D isnt that good
    - Karlsson may be laboring a little bit b/c of his injury
    - Thinks the Rangers can still get away with having a bad PP in this series
    - PK will take a big role in this series
    - Defense will indicate who will be the victor, Rangers D playing solid, and have the advantage over OTT D
    - 2012 Series vs. Ott, that series shouldnt have gone to a Game 7
    - Core group of NYR know that this is very important, not to put themselves in a spot to play a Game 7, Core group has to see the opportunity to get to the ECF and get to the SC Final, West isnt that dominating
    - Realm of possibility to see EDM/Rangers Final, teams in West are beatable
    - MTL had 285 hits in Round 1, Rangers were able to adjust and adapt
    - Only 4 goalies age 35 or older has won the Stanley Cup
    - Lundqvist is very smart when it comes to hockey
    - Lundqvist is giving it all b/c this opportunity might not come again
    - NYR are at their most experienced point, Chi/LA are the other experienced playoff teams the last 5 years and they're both out
    - Best run of hockey in 90 years for the Rangers

I'm back and forth on this series. One minute I think it could be over quick, the next minute I worry that AV won't adjust to the trap and have repeats of game 3

    Don't be back and forth.

We are the much, much, much better team in this series. Barring injury this is a series we can and should wrap up quickly. We are exceptionally well rested and anything other than top notch effort during this set will only mean that there's to be major personnel change over the summer. If we provide the effort, the physicality, and even half of our offensive acumen that we've shown all season, it will take an act of god for this Ottawa team to beat us. They're just not that good. I'll be expecting a win, and as they're playing the worst team remaining in the playoffs, should they lose I'll be expecting larger scale personnel changes in the summer than what might happen if we win..

As it was with Price, Anderson is my biggest fear with Ottawa. He's another goalie that really turns it on against the Rangers. He's also got the whole wife with cancer situation fueling his inspiration as well. I just hope this isn't a typical Ottawa snoozefest of a series.

    - 6 on 5 is never practiced on the defensive side
    - 10x this postseason teams have scored 6 on 5, 4x it was against the NYR
    - Guys have to know that the goalie has been pulled, guys should be screaming on the bench goalie is pulled
    - NYR have had 31 Grade A chances, OTT has had 13
    - OTT hasnt shown that they are really dangerous hockey club
    - If OTT scores early they will go into their neutral zone trap, 1-3-1
    - Lundqvist hasnt been as strong as vs. MTL
    - Lundqvist gets up for this stuff
    - NYR will lean on their experience
    - NYR 15-5 when facing elimination, .945 save percentage
    - Last 10 Stanley Cup Winners have had very strong centerman and a shutdown defenseman, not necessarily a star goalie
    - NYR havent shut down OTT while they are up, no shut down pair, 7 GA against Girardi/McD
    - NYR havent had the luxury of having high 1st round picks to get a Crosby/Toews/Malkin
    - Expects nothing else but a win tonight, will run naked around his street if the NYR dont win
    - Game 7 is a coin flip

That's really all that concerns me. I can totally see Ottawa shutting shit down if they get a 1-0 lead. They'll be clogging the NZ and shooting lanes - we saw it baffle the Rangers against Tampa in 2015.

Then all we have to hang our hats on is the powerplay and it's pretty much game over if that's the case.

You can't practice that shit with any kind of urgency. It's almost impossible to recreate. Maybe if they put 100k on the line or something.
