Joe Micheletti on WFAN with Mike Fatcessa

    4-20

    - Game 3 one of the worst if not worst game of the season
    - Lundqvist has been their best player, most consistent
    - Game 4 Rangers had the puck, made plays, played with a spirit
    - Didnt get discouraged b/c of the 6 straight losses at home
    - Played well throughout, deserved to win
    - MTL media is all over the Canadiens
    - Rangers have more weapons to win games, Rangers weapons need to contribute more, JT Miller no goals, Zibenajad 1 point, Kreider no points
    - There is production to be had from Rangers players more so than MTL players, Rangers depth is better
    - Doesnt think its any question this goes to Game 7
    - Rangers think the Rangers need to win tonight
    - Has the makings of the best game of the series tonight
    - Doesnt think their should be any tweaks in the lineup
    - Big reason Rangers limited MTL shots was that they had the puck more
    - AV was really happy with the balance of the lineups in Game 4
    - Julien split up Patches and Radulov, Radulov has been MTL's best player
    - Rehashing the Radulov story a few years ago getting caught past curfew, etc......., he's grown up, matured, father, he wants to re-sign with MTL
    - Most of the Rangers are vets, Vesey has improved every game during the playoffs, aura of Montreal not getting to them
    - 1st goal every game has won the game
    - MTL crowd will turn on the Habs quickly, fans are tough on them, fans are unreasonable b/c they're rabid
    - NYR have to have a great start, be aggressive, get the crowd on MTL
    - Expects one of the players that havent done much to break out in one of these games, mentions Hayes, Stepan, Miller
    - Carey Price is a quiet guy, makes playing goalie very casual, non-chalant, plays the puck well
    - Lundqvist is the more emotional guy, he wears his emotions
    - People thought Price would have a big edge in goal
    - Lundqvist took that as motivation, he had to make more saves and difficult saves

    Thanks for this.

Nothing against Joe, and I don't know how many people have been able to watch the games on NBC, but Ray Feraro is a fucking unbelievable color commentator. I'd say best in the biz. Micheletti tends to just talk about how great everything is.

Officiating's been fine. They've been letting them play. Nothing wrong with that. I'd rather that than 40 PPs a game.

Still think this way? IMO, there's an obvious favoritism towards the Habs. Like bad.

Did Joe get to spend some time explaining to Fatso that hockey is played on an ice rink?

The officials are letting them play. There are a couple of calls that they miss for us, but there are also calls that they don't call on us.
I really wish for our players to have the same kind of mean streak that some of the MTL players have. If they did, we'd be better suited for the non-calls that happen in the playoffs.

But Smith is definitely of that ilk. I hope AV doesn't coach it out of him. lol

It's amazing that WFAN never talks hockey except at play-off time.

Still think this way. I honestly don't know how you can complain about the refs in this series. What does the NHL get out of the Habs beating the Rangers? Nothing. I think it's insane to talk about favoritism.

What games are you watching? Did you not see the non-boarding to Mac in game 4 or the elbow/hit to the head on Smith in the same game. Even last nights game it was the same thing. I get letting the bullshit go, but they let too much go when it happened in front of the ref. Its only going to get worse if the refs keep letting things go like they are. Call the real shit at least.

Its been a long time since a Canadian team has gone deep. The NHL would get a lot out of especially Montreal going deep or winning the cup. Montreal in the finals is a bigger watch than say Washington vs Nashville ratings wise.

    - Mistake that everyone is picking the Rangers, gotta give OTT respect
    - OTT was a team that always had a lot of offense and couldnt defend
    - Guy Boucher was hired, kept same group of players and made them more defensive, cut their GAA by .5, got players to buy into it, took 1/2 a season, could bore you to death
    - Goalie has a marvelous record vs. the Rangers
    - Riding Craig Anderson story, wife is battling throat cancer, rallied around that
    - Rallied around Clarke McArthur, hasnt played in 2 years b/c of concussions, almost retired
    - OTT is a group that is united
    - Guy Boucher had to get Karlsson to buy into the defensive structure, 2nd in the league in block shots, marvelous hockey player, should be on the ice about half the time
    - Thinks this series will have some chipyness, 1st round proved the Rangers have some team toughness, they will try and carry it forward into this series, not as chippy as vs. MTL
    - Lundqvist will come into the favorite between the 2 goalies but not by much
    - Series will be where the NYR patience will be tested, patience on how they will handle the puck, OTT has a deep enough team where they can burn you
    - The move to put Buch in the lineup to give the Rangers more speed was a marvelous move by AV
    - Rangers depth will give OTT fits, 3rd line may have an outstanding series, 5/6th D men on OTT will have problems, NYR can exploit that
    - OTT has scoring depth but are selective when they use it
    - The ability to win at home is not a factor now
    - Never seen Ryan McD play as good as he is now, he led the way, NYR follow his lead, NYR are playing as well as they have all season
    - Thinks the incident with Price 3 years ago got to him, being blamed for the injury really bothered him, so much hype about it bothered him, expects to see a different Kreider
    - Zucc is really special, he has a love of the game/sport, he's one of the leaders/voices on the team, special guy for a long time, he plays with more courage than anyone in the league
    - Confident this series, thinks Kreider, Stepan will be better
    - Still thinks their is improvement
    - Zibs/Brassard will play out in this series
    - Brassard leading OTT in points in the playoffs
    - Keep an eye on is Vesey, plays w/ a lot of heart, he was real good vs. MTL
    - NYR feels like they can play better
    - Thinks it will be a 6 or 7 game series
    - Thinks the Pens will beat the Caps
    - Pens have depth/speed
    - Pens dont get stuck in their zone that much
    - Caps are an excellent team, but when you watch a team and around them a little bit, doesnt think Caps have the confidence that they can beat anyone

    - Rangers didnt play well enough in the 1st game, Lundqvist gave them a chance in Game 1, Rangers didnt have that much patience, got unlucky, OTT deserved to win it
    - Game 2 NYR was much better, NYR made critical mistakes that hurt them, most of the game they did really good things
    - Cant have 3 2 goal leads, score 2 SHGs and lose the game
    - Rangers only had 1 chance in the last 5-6 minutes of the 3rd period
    - The puck wasnt getting behind the OTT net towards the end of the game to make OTT go 200 feet, make line changes
    - Goal 4 and 5 were both on deflections, Lundqvist didnt have much of a chance on Goal #4
    - Mistake by Holden pinching at the wrong time, Stepan on for a long shift, mistakes they made came back to hurt them
    - 1st goal by OTT was a poor goal by Lundqvist, maybe worst goal he gave up in the playoffs, defensive mistake by Girardi, NYR were real good until the goal
    - Lean on the positives from Game 2
    - Not give up on the NYR abilities to regroup
    - OTT didnt do anything that surprises him
    - NYR were one of the most disciplined teams this season, 3 early penalties in Game 1 and Game 2, penalties takes the NYR out of a rhythm since they are a 4 line team
    - Stay out of the penalty box, roll 4 lines
    - Wont be surprised if their is a lineup change, it'd be a 4th liner if it is and it wouldnt be a big deal
    - NYR have to win the next 2 games, cant lose tonight
    - Boucher wont change anything
    - NYR have to keep hitting Karlsson
    - OTT wants to play a defensive approach with a counter attack, more conservative style of play to get the NYR frustrated
    - NYR do not have a choice other than winning this game
    - Veteran players made plays that veterans do not make, cant make those type of plays tonight
    - If their is no play with the puck, put it into a safe spot
    - Lundqvist 1st goal was a bad goal, 2nd was a rebound goal where he didnt get help (defensive awareness mistakes, Methot blew past Nash/Stepan)
    - NYR think they still have a chance to win this series
    - No margin for error for NYR
    - They can get back into the series
    - OTT feels like they can beat anyone
    - NYR have to find a way to exploit the inexperience defensemen on OTT
    - IF Anderson sees the puck he stops it, NYR have to keep skating in front of him
    - Relatively confident, McD has been tremendous, smarter with the way they play, leaders need to step up their game
    - Extra day of rest helps Lundqvist but it also helps Karlsson
    - Expects to be a tremendous game tonight
    - Nobody better than Karlsson skating the puck out of the zone, very smart player

Good on Joe to call out some of the stupidity that caused that loss in Game 2. He makes a good point, which is essentially, "what's the point of having veteran players if they don't play with veteran experience?" Good question, Joe, I'm not sure.

Here's the gist of what Joe had to say:
    • Thought the Rangers came out with intensity in Game 3 and they will do the same tonight
    • He thinks Ottawa will be more up to the challenge and try to weather the Rangers' storm early
    • He thinks Wideman will play and give them some more offense
    • He thinks the Rangers will win the series, he has complete faith in this team. He actually said that there's "something special" going on with this group and he pointed back to training camp when a lot of players had a chip on their shoulders from what happened last season
    • He thinks Miller is playing hurt
