Rangers Are Favorite to Sign 22-Year Old Russian Defenseman Alexei Bereglazov

Don’t know if the Rangers are going to get Kevin Shattenkirk, but there is one free-agent defenceman they could snare. His name is Alexei Bereglazov, a 22-year-old left-hand shot playing at KHL Magnitogorsk. They are considered a favourite.
    http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/3...mpic-decision/

Bereglazov went undrafted in 2012, is 6-4, 192 and has 1 goal and 18 assists this season for Mettallurg in the KHL.

He won Bronze with Russia at the 2014 World Juniors as a teammate of Pavel Buchnevich and was also a teammate of Buchnevich and Rangers prospect Igor Shesterkin in the Euro Hockey Tour last year.

In the preliminary Central Scouting Rankings for 2012, Bereglazov was ranked as the 34th Russian.

Bereglazov was ranked 54th by Central Scouting in their final rankings of European Skaters. (NHL.com)

He had 6 assists in 7 playoff games for Mettalurg this past season.

Rangers Are Favorite to Sign 22-Year Old Russian Defenseman Alexei Bereglazov

Craig Constance on his twitter 2/22 said as much as 20 teams were looking at Neal Pionk, a right handed defenseman. Hopefully we're one of them.

Right now it's the best way to build up our farm.

This is a great strategy for the Rangers. In the free agent/un-drafted market, the Rangers are in a very strong position to get an edge on the competitors because it is an extremely famous and prestigious franchise and because the city naturally has a great attraction. When players can choose themselves, the Rangers have a huge competitive advantage over Winnipeg, Carolina, Arizona etc.

You could argue that the free agent market is the only place where this advantage can be translated into sporting assets since the whole draft/trading system is so balanced and equal by nature.

Good, sign everyone who we can because our prospect pool is abysmal right now. It's pretty much Shestyorkin and then a bunch of hopeless crap.

The #1 rated college free agent--Zach Aston-Reese, a Long Island kid just signed with Pitt. You would think we'd be in on him. Maybe it was because he's a left handed C.

Rangers Likely to Sign KHL D Alexei Bereglazov

Have seen this rumored elsewhere as well. Very good player who is said to be near NHL ready. Lefty who played the right side a lot in Russia.

    http://blueseatblogs.com/2017/04/17/...ei-bereglazov/

Per our very own Josh Khalfin, citing Igor Eronko, the Rangers are likely to sign Russian defenseman Alexei Bereglazov once his KHL deal expires. Bereglazov is a big dude at 6’4″ and 220 lbs, but is a very mobile skater. Josh did a full breakdown of him earlier this month, and you should definitely check it out.
Should he sign with the Rangers, he will likely need a little time in the AHL to get accustomed to the North American rink and game. However he is a solid player and could slide into the lineup almost right away. The added benefit –aside from just landing a solid prospect, even at 22 years old– is that Bereglazov played in the KHL, and is someone that Pavel Buchnevich is familiar with. Buchnevich passed on all bonuses to have a KHL-out clause in his deal. This could be a move to keep Buchnevich comfortable as well.
These are just rumors for now, but very strong rumors. Nothing can be official until his contract in the KHL officially expires.

    Nice... can't hurt

If they land Shattenkirk as expected and get rid of one of Staal or Girardi we might have a legitimately lethal D in a year or two

    Really good news.

Who needs a draft anyways. Attracting players like this and Vesey and Hayes etc., is the last lever the real NHL franchises have over the new, fake, invented franchises in this fucked up league that generously rewards failure.

    Good one Dunny

    Anyway,
Good news. with Sean Day also possessing boom or bust potential, it all helps increase our odds of players developing … and improves the pipeline.

… although some of us older 55+ dudes are probably starting to lose a bit of patience, and want this current team, young and old, to grab the bull by the horns and shake a cup out of its ass before we turn 60.

It'll be the Russian invasion in a few seasons. Buch, Igor, and this kid. Nothing wrong with a little Russian flair on the team.

"Defender of "Magnitogorsk" Bereglazov will continue his career in the "Rangers"
    April 20, 2017, Thursday. 20:29.
    Hockey 1 26

As it became known to the "Championship", Alexei Bereglazov will continue his career in the NHL. The defender of the Magnitogorsk Metallurgist, who ends his contract with the Ural club on April 30, 2017, will sign an agreement with the New York Rangers. Also St. Petersburg SKA was interested in hockey.

In the regular season-2016/17, the 23-year-old hockey player played in all 60 games, having recorded 19 (1 + 18) points at the score of "+9" and 20 minutes of penalty time at his own expense.

In the playoffs of the Gagarin Cup-2017, Bereglazov played 13 games, noting 6 assists."

Perfect person to bring in with Buch and potentially even pairing with the equally tall Russian Defenseman Sergey Zborovskiy (who has put together a *solid* season and had a strong WJC) in the future.

Zippy tweeted that is was done as well too, and that he will officially sign when the KHL season is over April 30.
