Thumbs up Katie Strang Re-Assigned to Detroit Tigers of MLB

@KatieStrangESPN: Quick life/work update: I have been reassigned to cover baseball for ESPN. Starting today, I will be covering the Detroit Tigers (1/3)

@KatieStrangESPN: To my hockey followers/friends: Promise to keep one eye on pucks and chime in when I still can, so don't leave me just yet! (2/3)

@KatieStrangESPN: Will always be a hockey girl at heart. A sincere thank you to everyone in this sport/community that made it feel like home. Love you all

    --

Ugh. This sucks! Strang was one of the games' absolute best writers and reporters. Losing her on a full-time deal is awful.

She's been one of the most consistently reliable, unbiased sources for information for years.

Yeah, certainly doesn't come across that way. We've seen in the past where hockey writers have left excitedly. Jesse Spector, for example, who also went to MLB. Her being "re-assigned" sounds like they basically threw her off the NHL account.

Knowing ESPN and how little they regard hockey they are just cutting back on their hockey budget.

Not just the Metro teams. The League as a whole. This whole Patrick Kane thing, for example, she's been instrumental in providing information about. And that's been the case for nearly every major NHL story in the last number of years. The lockout in 2013, Glendale, whatever.

That's a shame then. Espn is probably screwing her over.

She seemed pretty well liked and respected by most in the hockey community.

I'm sure she's thrilled to go from covering hockey to covering baseball in Detroit.
