    Toronto

Looking to go to Toronto for a weekend with my girlfriend. Anyone have any hotel recommendations and things to do besides the Hall of Fame? Looking to spend under $100/night, which likely means we'll have to find something in the outskirts, which shouldnt be too big of a deal? Or will it be?

$100 a night, for two people, including - or not including - room & board?

Toronto is a high-class city, but as with such things, it can be pretty costly to do some of the more fun activities.

Off of the top of my head:

    CN Tower
Canadian National Exhibition (Aug 21 - Sept 7)
    Toronto Island/CentreVille
    Beaches (Cherry, Sunnyside, or otherwise)
Cheap Sight Seeing - Kensington Market (a walk only independent outdoor shopping district), St. Lawrence Market (inside food shopping area, one of the best)
    Art Gallery of Ontario
    Royal Ontario Museum
Casa Loma - a castle outside of downtown, but still cool to check out.
    Ripley's Aquarium

My buddy did an AirBNB right downtown, I think right on or just off of Yonge St., for an entire week and it was less than $500. Might want to give that a shot, if you trust that sort of thing.

The $100/night was just for the room. We found some hotels that fit that in the suburbs, like Markham. My concern was getting to the city from there, like driving from there and finding parking for the day.
Thanks for the list of things to do though.

Last time I was there, I stayed at the Hojo, which was downtown. It was only 89 bucks a night, but that was 5 years ago. It wasn't anything spectacular, but we just needed a bed.

I've done Airbnb a couple of times, just not in Toronto. Never had any problems, but one place wasn't as nice as the pictures. That's just the risk you run.

I've never gotten murdered, if that's what you're curious about lol

    Don't stay in Markham.

I'd adhere to the West-end suburbs, such as Etobicoke, Mississauga and even Brampton.

    Markham is a disaster.

I'll always been fond of Zanzibar's myself. Torontonyr will be the guy to ask on this board about Toronto as I'm a hayseed, but I stay in Toronto hotels all the time. Stay near the airport, it's a no brainer. There's a direct rail link from Pearson to downtown and it ain't busy. If driving is your thing, it's a simple drive to downtown. Hotels are incredibly reasonable out there.

I've got lucky and stayed at the King Eddy and Chelsea for peanuts on expedia but it's hit and miss.

And TIFF. I think you'd like it.

I'm petrified of AirBnB. I'm in a hotel, short term apartment or under an office desk for about 225 nights a year and I can't pull the trigger on it.

We might pull the trigger on AirBnB. Found some really nice ones in the city for like $70 per night, which is very reasonable. If that doesnt work we'll look near YYZ.
Also I would love to do TIFF but we're thinking first weekend in October

In that case, you have to check out Nuite Blanche - which turns the entire downtown core into a (mostly free) art exhibit.

yes, another great idea I've been meaning to check out myself.

You could also get Jays playoff tickets for early October
