Every time July 1st comes around I hope we sign the biggest name available no matter our circumstance.

It's actually been really weird not being in on a big name, or the big name, these last few years.

Thomas was a hot goalie as well, and a bit of an unknown quantity as he came into the league as an over-aged enigma. As for Quick, some may say he fits the mold, and maybe they're right. Personally, I think he's a streaky goalie who's clutch when it counts. On a constant, game-to-game basis, he's pretty mediocre.

Quick I think meets the criteria for elite-level goalie. For my money he was the last one to win a Cup. Before him you have to go back to the '03 Devils with Brodeur. Unless someone wants to make an argument for Marc-André Fleury. I wouldn't.

Ryan McDonagh is overrated by this fan base, shouldn't have been named captain, and will never been consistently good enough on both sides of the puck to win that Norris everyone talks about.

Chris Drury was a great captain and was good for the Rangers.

I actually agree. I like McDonagh a lot as a player, and he's the Rangers' best defenseman, but he's not among the "best" D in the league (if we're talking Norris), and I wouldn't have given him the captaincy this early either. I hate it on young players in general.

I'm still waiting on that mean streak to "develop"

I agree, he is a step below the Duncan Keith's of the world. Definitely a top pairing defenseman though.

I was happy to see him win the cup the first time with the Hawks. I rooted for them just because of him. He was a good guy and he took some undeserved abuse from the fans much like many other players on that team.

Petr Purcha was a God among men and Marcel Hossa wasn't good against the boards.

Marcel Hossa was underrated. With the right amount of patience and the right circumstances, he could have been Benoit Pouliot.

I really liked Erik Christensen and thought he could have made it here with the right coaching.

Martin Straka might be one of the least appreciated Rangers of the past decade.

Agreed. Never gonna win a Norris, at least.

But he just was average on the boards.
