NYSE, WSJ, and United Airlines Down on 'Technical Glitches'

    http://www.theguardian.com/business/...-halts-trading

The New York Stock Exchange halted trading in all securities on Wednesday morning after a “major technical issue”.

The exchange posted the news on its website and said “additional information will follow as soon as possible”. The halt began at 11.32am ET. the Department of Homeland Security said there was no sign of suspicious activity.
The halt came as China’s stock markets continued their free fall and the Greek debt crisis continued to rattle European investors. The Dow Jones Industrial Average had fallen 213 points when trading was halted, a fall of 1.2%

The Wall Street Journal's homepage experienced an outage on Wednesday amid similar troubles at the New York Stock Exchange and United Airlines.

The newspaper's homepage displayed a 504 outage, though other sections of the newspaper's website, such as its Markets page, continued to function. The outage came at a curious time, just hours after United Airlines grounded all their flights across the country due to computer problems, and mere minutes after trading was halted on the New York Stock Exchange.

The speculation on CNBC and MSNBC has been hinting at China, but from what they've been saying, nobody in the State department or DHS are making those comments yet. It's just very strange. It's highly unlikely that all three companies/institution are operating on the same codes in a capacity that would cause cessation of operations.

If they all use the same network/server providers, then it's not that farfetched. It's like when Amazon Web Services went down in 2012 and took down like half the internet.

Normally I'd dismiss the China speculation because of how often people like to make that connection, but it is very coincidental timing. They are coming off losses the past few weeks that have amounted to a third of its market's value.

Just once again proves how vulnerable we truly are to these things, and that at some point in the near future its going to be a very bad day in America and maybe around the world because of a cyber attack
