    2-3-5 through 8 games so far this season. Tied for third on the team in points scored, though Assat Pori is second worst in the Finnish league so far this year.

    Any return to form with this guy is a good thing, given his previous reputation for being a kid prodigy. If he's catching up to being in a man body, those skills are probably still there.

    and then the subsequent seemingly difficult adaptation to playing with men...injuries derailing his career, and a coach who may not have liked him,

    I hope he pans out too, but it seems like these hugely skilled players that drop so far in the draft almost never have success in the NHL

    Can't that be said about Duke and Buchnevich?

    Word. They were drafted in the 3rd round too. It's not like he had some Nick Ebert kind of thing and fell to the last spot in the draft.

    Yeah that's true, but Duke and Pavel have come a pretty long way since getting drafted. And the fact that they look decently promising doesn't change the fact that most players that get taken in 3rd round, especially ones that fall quite a bit, usually do not pan out.

    Saarela has passed last season's point total. He has 8 goals and 5 assists through 25 Finnish league games, versus the 6-6-12 he put up in 51 games last season.

    Has caught fire. 8 goals in his last 9 games. Extremely impressive for his age in that league.

    Maybe he's put the injuries behind him and is back to form.

    Chris Johnston Juha Hiitelä ‏@jhiitela #NYR prospect Aleksi Saarela, who assisted GWG at WJC final, got hurt in his first Finnish league game post WJC. Out rest of the season.

    Apparently there are conflicting reports.

    @PekkaJalonen:
    @jhiitela @reporterchris Saarela is not seriously injured and is day-to-day, maybe plays on Wednesday. #Liiga #Ässät #NYR #NHL

    @jhiitela:
    Now Saarela's team says he's day-to-day.

    Saarela steals puck off WJC stud and likely top 5 2016 pick Patrik Laine for GWG today.

    Saarela has played very well since the WJC. One of the top U-20 skaters of all Liiga.

    Here's how he stacks up against top 2016 draft prospects Patrik Laine and Jesse Puljujarvi

    Player GP Goals Assists Points P/GP
    Patrick Laine 38 14 18 32 .78
    Aleksi Saarela 37 15 12 27 .64
    Jesse Puljujarvi 45 9 13 22 .49

    He would have likely been his teams leading scorer but for the WJC's where he fit right in with both those guys and Kapanen.
