Really scary moment. I'm hoping he's not concussed, but considering he didn't return, I don't doubt he is.

My wife says to me last night, "He got hit in the helmet didn't he? He should be ok". Anyone here, get hit in the helmet with a slapshot like that?
I couldn't tell if it hit the helmet or his ear.

It hurts, even with a helmet.

I got hit in the face with a deflected wrist shot in a men's league game (aka, lots of these guys can't shoot), and my ears rung and my cage had a huge dent in it.

Can't imagine getting hit flush from an NHL player.

Looks like he got it right in the ear protector, which isn't very substantial. It stings and rings in your ear. I worry he may be concussed, but we'll see.

Well, if anything id assume concussed. Isnt it NHL mandate that u leave the ice to get checked out? AV hinted he was ok. Hopefully it was a case of bot regurning because they were 3-1 up n the series and would have returned if it were 3-1 down.

NHL doesn't mandate you have to stay out of game.
I have to assume there is a injury involved

To me it looked like he got hit on the side of his head. Looking at him on the bench it looked like his vision might have been a little blurred so they kept him out as a precaution. Hope he's okay.

NYR [LW] Mats Zuccarello Leaves Game After Being Struck in Head With Puck

The way the CBA addition is supposed to work is If the player fails the Concussion Assessment Tool test they are not allowed to return to the game. However players will withhold symptoms to combat this.

As for Zuccarello I'm hoping it isn't a concussion or vertigo.

That's why I mentioned the NHL doesn't mandate you stay out of game for blow to head.

    I worded incorrectly
I assume he has injury (concussion possibly)

I've heard everything from concussion to vertigo. Either way, I'm glad we ended the series when we did, gives him more time to heal up.

I've been hit between the eyes from guys that rip it and I had a WJC Cloutier style helmet. It's not fun. Zucc's is way more scary though. Really bad spot.

Not to stay out of the game. It mandates you to get checked out. Theyve mentioned it in road to the winter classic documentary.
