    Name: Daniel Walcott
    Position: Defense
    Shoots: Left
    Current Team: Blainville-Boisbriand(QMJHL)

    Hockey's Future Profile: http://www.hockeysfuture.com/prospects/daniel-walcott/

A rare 19-year-old rookie in the QMJHL, Walcott stepped in to fill a big role in his first year of junior hockey. Despite his inexperience, he played a mature game with poise befitting his age. Contributing at both ends of the ice with a physical edge to his game, Walcott's puck-moving skills are top notch.

Strong, two-way presence and was “dominating” in his rookie season in the QMJHL

Skates well and can generate a lot of speed going forward and backward

Strong in transition and can skate with the fastest skaters in the Q

Plays a shutdown, aggressive “in-your-face defensive game.”

Is physical and willing to give a beating if needed. Uses his frame to separate the puck off attackers and to clear the danger zones around his net. Has strong leadership qualities both on and off the ice. Lacks a little in the size for the style and temperament he plays.

Walcott is a minute muncher who contributes offensively with a strong first pass and the support of his forwards. Poised with the puck under pressure and displays impressive vision

His NHL potential is to be a two-way defenseman.
    https://ca.sports.yahoo.com/blogs/bu...135951264.html

“He’s been great for us,” Houle continued. “He’s been great defensively and he’s been great offensively. He replaced some big bodies that we lost last year on defence and he’s taking a lot of minutes.”

Walcott’s story doesn’t begin there. A child of a recent separation at 14, he stopped playing organized hockey in pee wee, opting instead to play at his high school so it would be cheaper on his parents. After five years with his high school team, He joined his father in Chicago, where he spent his summers as a kid, to play high school hockey there. After one year there, Lindenwood University offered him a place on their team, and he jumped at the chance.

“I got looked at by Lindenwood University,” Walcott said. “They offered me a spot. I decided to take it because it’s university [hockey] and I always wanted to play there. Unfortunately, it’s not high quality. It’s not NCAA hockey, it was just club hockey.”
He had 13 points in 33 games for Lindenwood last season.

“My assistant coach and J-F Houle were in contact, and my name came up. They invited me to camp. I decided to come here because I live at home, basically. It was one of the major keys to the decision. Also, I wanted to get seen by scouts and here is a much bigger opportunity for that.”

“We invited him to our camp and gave him a chance,” Houle said. “He sure surprised everybody.”

System needs an injection of new blood. Player is a little on the light side, but still young.Remember we picked up Hagelin in the 6th round. One never knows.

can generate a lot of speed going forward and backward.

Strong in transition and can skate with the fastest skaters in the Q

Plays a shutdown, aggressive “in-your-face defensive game.”
If he's as fast as he's billed and can forecheck and handle himself defensively he might get on well in Hartford if he turns pro, and who knows where from there?

    Good article here from yesterday.

    https://ca.sports.yahoo.com/blogs/bu...220911380.html

“I’m a two-way defenceman,” said Walcott. “I bring a lot of offence and I can play defence too and shutdown top lines. I can be in-your-face and physical. I give my heart out every game – a lot of character.”

He grew up playing football, so he said he enjoys the rougher aspects of the game. There’s a perception at times in CHL that the Quebec league is less physical, though Walcott says he doesn’t believe that too be true based on what he saw with the Armada last season.

“The physicality was there a lot,” he said. “It felt like every other game you would be in an all-out physical game. You’d be bruised up, but that’s the type of game I love - just to be physical, like playing football back in my past – I love the physicality.”

Something doesn't seem right about a guy saying he has a lot of character. That's really only something someone else can say about you

This kid seems more cocky than confident. Easy tiger, you were a 5th round pick. Shut up and play.

Oh ok, yeah the points aren't that impressive but I think it was because of his defensive play as well. He played shutdown defense as their number 1 guy and I don't know about all the games, but I know in the first game he led his team with 8 hits.

Playing shutdown in the Q is also impressive, considering how offensive a league it is.

I think Pete was saying that it was really impressive what he did and he is trying to figure out how much better he would have had to have played to have gotten the first star of the week. 4 pts, and a shutdown D, 8 hits game 1, those stats speak for themselves and in an offensive league like that, the first and second stars I'd assume put up huge points.

    For those wondering...

    http://theqmjhl.ca/article/auger-zyk...rs-of-the-week

Sebastian Auger, goalie, was 1st star of the week with 2 wins, a 1.5 GAA and a .956 save percentage. The second star of the week was Valentin Zykov, who scored 3 goals and 6 points in two games including a 5-point effort in one game. Zykov was the 37th overall pick in 2013 to LA. Walcott came in at #3.
