Shesterkin now has 12 wins (tied league-best), a 1.10 GAA (league-best) and a .957 SV% (league-best). Four SO's too (tied league-best). #NYR

Context: SKA-Neva are second in the VHL despite none of their players being top-30 in points. Shesterkin carries them every night. #NYR

Igor Shestyorkin is 20 years old. The youngest goalies to play any significant time in back up roles this past season were 22. This is perfectly fine for his development. The KHL is a good league for him to fight to become a starter in.

Thanks for the word. Sounds like good news and good timing, then.

P.S. The King says the rest of the NHL's goalies can eat worms as far as he's concerned

The 2014 fourth-round pick improved to 7-1-2 with SKA with three wins and one overtime loss this week. He has not lost a game in regulation since Sept. 9, a span of eight starts. The 20-year-old has a .921 save percentage and a 2.04 goals against average with two shutouts thus far this season.

36 save shutout tonight. Kid is a big time talent. Likely our top prospect and goaltender of the future.

Almost perfect timing too. When the KHL contract is up he will only be 23. Hank will be 37 with two years left on his contract. Shesterkin can be the back up and play 30 games a year keeping Hank fresh, be very capable if Hank gets injured, or just be the starter if Hank retires early.

Yeah, and in a way, it's great he's in the KHL and not in Junior because he's playing against men right now and will be for the duration of his contract. Might give him a nice conditioning platform for easing the transition to the NHL, like Buchnevich.
