'X-Men: Apocalypse' – 2016

Last week came a double whammy of news over at Fox, that was more or less an early Christmas present for comic movie fans: first, it was announced that "X-Men: Apocalypse" was set for a 2016 release date and second, it would likely be part of a Marvel-esque universe of movies writer Simon Kinberg was building. Well, today brings with it a couple more updates starting with Vulture confirming that Bryan Singer will be back in the director's chair for 'Apocalypse,' but perhaps more intriguingly, word has already surfaced on how it links to "X-Men: Days Of Future Past." Warning: MASSIVE SPOILERS AHEAD.

The guys over at FirstShowing got their hands on a recent draft of 'Days Of Future Past,' and not only does it reveal who will be playing the entity known as En Sabah Nur, but also that the movie will tie directly to 'Apocalypse' in the following manner. Again, big spoilers ahead— here's what FirstShowing had to say:

...the ['Days Of Future Past'] credits bumper jumps back to the past with a young Erik Lehnsherr (Michael Fassbender) in a ramshackle house in the desert eating dinner, clearly on the run from all the authorities who want to bring him down. While using a well outside to get some water, the young Magneto sees something fall from the night sky and crash to Earth nearby. Upon inspecting the impact zone, he encounters what is described as an "alien form" who is "towering, terrifying, with a twisted metal face and dark pits for eyes." It's Apocalypse and he says, "I have crossed rivers of time to find you." Magneto asks, "Who are you?"

The alien responds, "I am your future." Suddenly Apocalypse merges with Magneto, who screams and blasts an insane amount of energy and shockwaves around him. This energy explosion levels everything around him, with a blast radius that goes for miles. As Magneto looks at what he's done, he has a realization of the power he now holds and a villainous grin begins to form before the film cuts to black.

So, will the smorgasboard of 'Days Of Future Past' mutants be back to kick ass? Not exactly. According to Vulture, 'Apocalypse' is a "direct sequel" that has been set up to "to focus strictly on the younger McAvoy-Fassbender cast," though as always, it's probably a safe bet there will be some cameos and whatnot, because that's what the fans like. (Bleeding Cool reports that some of the "present" timeline cast could be back).

Bryan Singer has been teasing the return of Angel to the X-Men world for sometime, but today it's official. Angel's back, and he's got a brand-new look — but it's one that should be very familiar to comics fans.

YES!

This is a great fusion between Age of Apocalypse Archangel and the Uncanny X-Men Angel:

Fan-favorite mutant Betsy Braddock, a.k.a. Psylocke, will be joining the X-Men movie-verse in Apocalypse, and she'll be played by Olivia Munn! Director Bryan Singer Instagrammed the newscasting, making her the newest addition to the next X-movie's expanding mutant cast, although she undoubtedly won't be the last.

getting a weird Mr. Freeze meets helmetless Darth Vader vibe in that pic. But considering Apocalypse in the comics looks totally ridiculous I think it still works. Plus I think Isaac said he'l be taking on multiple forms in the movie.

Another pic with Storm, who they also nailed.

The helmet/headdress aspect is too much. Personally I'd just have gone with the full suit you see him in, and an all-blue head. Think Ronan the Accuser from Guardians of the Galaxy. Or even Nebula, who had the mechanical lines effectively just drawn on her face.

Story on the cover http://www.ew.com/article/2015/07/15/x-men-apocalypse-first-look-new-generation-ew

As the new film opens, 10 years have passed and Raven (Lawrence), Charles (McAvoy), and Erik (Michael Fassbender) are still estranged, but not for much longer. The Big A awakens from his Egyptian tomb, sizes up the global ’80s vibe, and decides he’s not down with the Reagan era. “It’s a chaotic world of conflict and war and destruction,” Singer says. “It’s one giant civilization that now requires one giant culling. That’s why he needs *special assistants in this process.” He finds teenage Storm living on the streets in Cairo, Angel (Ben Hardy) duking it out in a fight club in Berlin, and Psylocke (Olivia Munn) working behind the Iron Curtain for the mutant-broker Caliban. But his big get is Erik, who has been attempting to live a “normal” life in Poland. “He’s fallen in love and he’s basically left his metal ways behind,” Fassbender says. Pretty quickly, though, his world is shattered and “normal” is no longer an option. Says Fassbender, “Apocalypse finds Erik at a low ebb and recruits him.”

Oh shit, Caliban!? I wonder if he'll make a little cameo?

This is a redux of the Fall of Mutants story, where the Four Horsemen of Apocalypse were Archangel (Death), Plague (Pestilence), Abraham Kieros (War) and Autumn Rolfson (Famine).

Of course the Horsemen thing has always been a revolving door cast.

Here's a comprehensive list of who has played each Horseman over the years:

Death:

Archangel

Caliban

Wolverine

Gambit

Psylocke

Sanjar Javeed

Banshee

Daken

Grim Reaper

Sentry

Famine:

Autumn Rolfson

Ahab

Sunfire

Jeb Lee

Pestilence:

Plague

Caliban

Polaris

Ichisumi

War:

Abraham Kieros

Hulk

Deathbird

Gazer

Decimus Furius

I wonder if they'll spin the Caliban angle to how he was used in the comics — to help Apocalypse find "worthy" mutants for his cause, since Caliban's main mutant power is to sense other mutants. Meaning he recruits Psylocke first through Caliban, then uses Caliban to locate Storm, Magneto and Archangel?

Thats what it sounds like from the EW article.

It'll be interesting to see how they define Apocalypse's powers in the movie. Because if he's like all powerful and can pretty much have any power he wants then why bother using someone else to locate mutants.
