My point being with those players is that if the offense is good enough to control the game, defense isn't going to need to be stalwart if they never have to worry about the other team having the puck.

28 saves in a 5-2 win. Kootenay is riding him hard, playing him every game now. Rightfully so, because he's red hot and not slowing down.

40 saves in a 5-2 win. Save percentage up to .920, good for 3rd in the league.

25 saves in a 3-2 shootout win. He's playing unbelievable hockey on a team that is simply average. 14 wins in his last 15 starts. 1.87 GAA with a .939 save percentage in 10 games this month in 7 of which he faced more than 30 shots.

Hmm...wonder what his ceiling is. He was average to start the season. I guess what we're hoping for is capable backup? It's doubtful we nabbed another starting goaltender gem in the late rounds, but it would be stellar if we did. We've been spoiled going from Richter to Henrik without much down time in between. Some Mike Dunham and Kevin Weekes in there, but still. There are teams in the league *cough*Flyers*cough* that haven't had a legit dynasty goaltender in decades, and keep going from one okay guy to the next okay guy.

That said, you don't really need one to win. The Blackhawks proved that with Crawford, the Flyers proved it with Leighton, etc. If the team is good enough you can deal with it. But back on topic: I haven't read a single scouting report on this kid, or heard anyone talk about his long-term potential or ceiling. Is it still just too early? Or is the good news starting to filter down from scouts?

Knew I could count on you.

That's pretty damn good. I wonder how that stacks up vs. the other goalies in his league.

I'm more interested to see how he would do in the AHL after his Junior season is over. Kootenay has clinched a playoff spot so not sure we get to see him in pro until next season.

Same. I'd be interested to see how he handles professional-level shots. I'm not hoping for another franchise goaltender, because it seems impossible that we'd keep getting them back to back where other teams haven't had one in decades, but I'm at the very least hoping he pans out to be a good enough starter to serve as a stop-gap while we find the next goalie after Henrik. He doesn't need to be elite, just good enough to keep us competitive.

In my opinion, we should have already compiled a few goalie prospects in the past few drafts. Like, we saw how much pot luck is involved with the Blackburn/Montoya/Henrik dynamic. All of them projected to be studs, only one lived up to it. They typically take up to 5 years to get their game up to NHL level, so I'd want the next Rangers goaltender in the system now. Henrik's 32, and as of now we have no replacement. In 5 years, by the next time our goalie of the future would be ready, he'll be pushing 40 and in serious decline.

Getting a goalie in this year's draft needs to be a priority.

Yea I would like to see a few goalies drafted in the next 3-4 seasons. Gotta have options when hank is done.

Yet people question why I wanted to draft Jack Campbell in McIlrath's place. I've wanted goalie depth for years and we finally get one now. I wouldn't be surprised if we selected another goaltender in this draft. Both Missiaen and Stajcer are up in the air as to if they are getting new contracts with us. Both are RFAs this summer and neither has done anything to warrant staying here.
