    Not sure it can help.
At worst rangers get ahold of him in the AHL next season. Which is more than likely where they will want him at for at least some time. Rarely do any players jump from Europe to the NHL.

As far as our cap hell, he could only have been a possible "fix" at best due to him being on a entry level contract.

I hope I'm not over reacting, but this isn't good news.

He doesn't want to play in the AHL, that's why this is happening. In his comments he said he didn't think he would crack the Rangers roster next season because of how good they are so he was staying one more year.

    And that's fair I guess.

Good chance he's going to spend time in the AHL anyway. When's the last time a Euro walked onto the Rangers with no AHL time at all?

Well Euro's walk in to the NHL all the time without a day in the NHL. Maybe the Rangers don't like that but it happens every year.

Ovechkin, Backstrom, Johannson and Kuznetsov have 2 AHL games between them onthe Capitals for instance.

    Yea... I know.

But I asked when the predominantly North American built Rangers have done it...

Yes, but that's because NA's don't develop in Europe. Which I think that's what you might be saying.

I'm saying the Rangers have historically had their European players spend time in the AHL, no real reason to think they'd treat Buch any differently... So if he's signing a other KHL deal to avoid the AHL... There's a chance he's going to be disappointed.

I think that's more because they don't get the type of Euro that can move right in to a NHL line-up. I mean, Hank did it, he's really good, Zucc is 5'2 and if anyone ever thought Hagelin was going to be anything he would have never gone the NCAA route as a Euro. Hag and Zucc were project guys I guess I'm saying. I don't think Buch is, he may want a week or 2 in the AHL, but I really think what he does out there translates to the NHL well. From the little I've seen of him anyways.

    Fair enough.

And that said, if he didn't think he was better than the AHL, he could probably take MSL spot next year. Should have waited to sign that contract.

    Pete is on track here.
2 seasons ago I went through all 1st and 2nd year European players and something like 9/10 spent at least 50% of one season in AHL.
Most spent 1-2 years in AHL before making the NHL rosters full time.

As far as European players who made jump directly to NHL, most if not all were top 1st round picks (Ovevhkins, Malkins, etc)

I just hope he's more North American driven than David Kveton, who had no issues staying in Europe since he wouldn't make the Rangers outright.

@IgorEronko: Pavel Buchnevich to @GazetaBOsport: 'It's too hard to make the #NYRangers roster now, so I decided to develop in the #KHL for one more year'

He's not entirely wrong, but the Rangers could have used him as an option to replace St. Louis. He probably would have gotten a considerable look.

And it also might have made it easier to trade Hagelin if Buch was here.

I'm fine with it. He's 19, and he's the only prospect left in our system with considerable offensive skill since we traded our other one away. Let him develop in his comfort zone for now.

So sad that this is so true. And he's just kind of like a Kostitsyn.

Yeah, the more I think about it, the more it stings. We keep going all in, and we keep getting cleaned out.
