Given the choice between digging fence posts for a living or playing in a third world country and flying third world airlines I'll take fence post digging every time.

What's that have to do with you putting words in my mouth? I never said all KHL prospects die, yet you are somehow pinning that POV on me.

The KHL isn't exactly safe, but I'm not entirely worried. Has anyone in the KHL died of similar causes since the Cherapanov incident?
Has anyone is the AHL died in a plane crash or hear attack at a rink due to poor equipment?

Bottom line, if you think that conditions in the KHL don't concern NHL teams, I don't know what to tell you. NHL teams always want their prospects over early, and the KHL isn't a better developmental league for NHL play than the AHL is.

That's really it, in a nutshell.

    Rangers High on Buchnevich

With the 75th pick in the 2013 draft, the Rangers drafted Russian forward Pavel Buchnevich.

He was the 10th ranked European skater by Central Scouting and Leslie Treff, At Hockey’s Future, says that Rangers have been watching Buchnevich for a few seasons and feel as if he could end up being the crown jewel of this draft for them.

She adds that the team feels that if Buchnevich was playing in North America he would have been taken in the first round. Treff says that Buchnevich has an “outstanding” shot and “excellent hockey sense.”

In the Under 18 tournament last year, he had five goals and six assists in seven games.

    Update:

Guy has 9 points in 24 KHL so far playing for a pretty crappy team. Not bad. By comparison someone like Tarasnko had 24 and 19 points, respectively, in his 2nd and 3rd KHL season (42 GP). I think he's being played in a 3rd line role.

Would be sweet if he makes up for us passing on Tarasenko. Based on what I've read and the little I've seen of him his upside is probably similar to Cherepanov. He has a first round skillset, but fell because of the typical million question marks surrounding Russian players.

I like that he'll take his time since he has a contract. No rush to jump and stunt growth.

Damn, going by every other post Dunny has made in this section, I think we really got something here if he's saying something other than "This kid sucks"

What kid did I say sucks that we drafted? I normally enjoy a good trolling but good trolling needs to be grounded in some kind of minimal reality.

I was paraphrasing, but you usually never hype prospects

Sure I do, if they were born within 45 km of my front door and I know somebody that knows them.

2 assists yesterday. 15 points in 34 games in the KHL. Impressive.

Wow, that's actually a lot at his age.

Yeah. Tough to put up major points in that league. Not that points are the sole determining factor of success in the KHL, because if they were Jan Marek would be a household name. But for the fun of it:

Ovechkin at 17: 15 points in 40 games
Ovechkin at 18: 23 points in 53 games
Ovechkin at 19: 27 points in 37 games

Buchnevich at 17: 2 points in 12 games
Buchnevich at 18: 15 points in 36 games (so far)

So yeah, it's difficult to put up numbers. And NO, I am ABSOLUTELY NOT insinuating that this kid will be anything close to Ovechkin. I'm just pointing out how difficult it is to rack up points in that league for the people that look at his 15 point total and go, "meh."

I don't know how it is today, but I remember that they barely hand out secondary assists, if it wasn't pivotal to the play. There are very few phantom assists in the KHL. That makes his point score all the more impressive, if he only gets third line duty.
