New Islanders Regime Rips and Officially Ends John Tavares Era

In the most declarative comments made since Tavares left for his hometown Maple Leafs earlier in the summer, team president Lou Lamoriello made it clear the organization has done more than just move on. It has left Tavares in the rubble of the past.

?There?s no aftermath. Players come and go,? Lamoriello told The Post at the Islanders golf outing Tuesday at Bethpage State Park.

?It?s different if they had won championships. It?s different if they had had a lot of success. They haven?t done much ? and I don?t say that with any disrespect. Haven?t been to the playoffs the last couple years. Things haven?t worked out the way everybody would have liked them to, from what my understanding is.

?So, an aftermath? There?s no such thing in my mind. What the players we have here should be thinking about is not making the playoffs last year, and that?s what the goal should be. Teams win, not players. Individual players win some games, but teams win championships. And that?s what we have to create.?

His success as GM really ran deep in NJ before he tore down the organization and a New Regime in Jersey cleaned up the damage. Now he's doing the same with NYI. Can't wait to see TOR vs. Isles. Should be some great drama brewing this season. In general, Good luck Isle fans, you're in the same boat we are in so far

The game has passed him by since the lockout. Devils fans for the most part were glad to see him go. Conte heading there is also great news for the other teams in the league. Lou will bring cleanly shaven faces and short haircuts which has nothing to do with winning.

He's replacing Garth Snow. You'd be hard pressed to find a bigger off-season upgrade in all of hockey (including player movement) than this one! I don't even care if Lou has lost half his knowledge...it's still half more than Snow had.

Half of very little still isn't going to make them a serious playoff contender. How's Conte's draft record been in the same time frame?

That is absolutely true. NJD fans were glad to see him. Just ask my Father. He was euphoric to see Uncle Lou Lamoriello go since he is a control freak and we're seeing that again on Long Island. Good luck Islander fans with a GM that will get players that fit his archaic style of hockey. Like Bergevin but without the incompetence and both have similar old styles of hockey
