  1. We took over the 16U National team this year.. Heard the NJ Colonials dropped their entire National team and will only have American. Any truth to that Mikey? Glad your son made the team, glad tryouts are over, my poor Dad has had parents calling him for weeks now trying to get a spot on the team... It's amazing to me how many coaches will guarantee spots without seeing the kid play or making them try out. My Dad fully believes in earning your spot, not really sure what happened over the years, and now all of a sudden everyone is "Entitled" to a spot just because they are a good player. I'm only 25, and when I was younger you had to show up to tryouts and earn your spot. Crazy how things have changed in the last decade.
  2. He wears his first name.. I think it's Caelan? If I'm not mistaken.. But yeah it's always funny to watch him and LeClairs son get after each other out on the ice.
  3. Briere's son at our level doesn't wear his last name on his jersey... But his younger son does. Always found that a little weird.
  4. Yup, Rink 3 it was.. I swear Briere's kids are bigger than him, the one plays against us, 16 years old, and is a little tank.. So he must have an 01 and a 98. Primeau has some big boys, I know one is a Goalie, and apparently he is playing up for his age to play with his Dad. Heard this is the last year he is coaching though. Good luck to Michael, if anything, let's hope he makes it further than his old mates!
  5. Our team won the Championship for the AYHL this past weekend, 16U American. Beat the LI Royals 4-1 and NJ Colonials 6-1 in the 2 games.. Next year should be more difficult, Pops and I are moving up to the National level. Pretty cool being at the rink though and seeing a lot of old Flyers (Even though I hate them) and their kids. We have LeClairs son on our team, Hatcher coached one team, Primeau coached another and had 2 kids out there, Brieres kid was there, and Timonen as well (Just assuming it was his son, all others I know for sure). Best part about all these guys is they are just normal Dad's doing their part with their kids. Mikey I looked to see if your son was playing, always mix up what Age group he is, hope he does well this weekend against his old team!
  6. We went 1-1.. Lead 3-1 going into the 3rd against Milwaukee, lost 6-4 (Played our backup). Played Dallas last night, who beat us the first time, we won 1-0. It is really a tough situation having 5 games in a weekend and 2 goalies who are very different. Team is so confident in one, and not in the other. Dad said the heads just dropped when the Milwaukee team started scoring in the 3rd. Always tough when the team doesn't have confidence in one goalie, kids start to worry more about every shot against, and play differently.
  7. Sorry, just saw this Puck.. I am an Asst. Coach, my Dad is the HC. We coach the 16 and Under Jr. Flyers American team. It's Tier 1. Most of our kids are 15 year olds. The Jr. Flyers National team is mostly 16 year olds. We play out of Ice Line in Paoli. 4 Rinks, it's a really nice facility. Lots of larger tournaments, such as Silver Sticks Regionals are held there. I'm still young as far as the coaches in the building go (24)... Hopefully will be able to have my own team in a few years. Right now it's just fun learning the ropes from Pops. Try to make as many games as possible, it's tough since I Bartend most weekends and we play a lot of tournaments far away. As for the teams, you guessed right. Dallas are the Stars Elite and Colorado Thunderbirds. Played them both a few weeks ago in Detroit. Lost to Dallas, beat Colorado.
  8. Looking back at your schedule Mikey.. We are probably the game on the other rink around the same time as yours on Saturday. Like I said, the team we play Saturday morning is 3rd in the standings, we are 2nd. Should be a good game, we still have some boys missing due to concussions, so I expect the end of the weekend to be a little more of a struggle.
  9. 10/12 - 10:15 - Milwaukee 10/12 - 4:15 - Dallas 10/13 - 12:00 - Phoenix 10/13 - 6:15 - Colorado 10/14 - 10:00 - Arapahoe First 2 games should be really good. Not happy that I have to miss most of the games this weekend. Talent should be really good.. Good luck to your boys Mikey!
  10. Yup! I think I said this before, but I coach with my Dad. I actually have a Fitness Competition this weekend in East Orange, NJ.. So Saturday I'll be there all day. If I can get the Tan to rub off enough that I don't look like a pumpkin, I'll be there the next 3 games. At least with coaching the Jr. Flyers, my Tan will fit right in! If I can get out there Sunday or Monday I'll be sure to find out when your Son is playing and come over to say hi!
  11. We pulled one out today, 5-3 over the NJ Devils.. 4 of our Guys are out with Concussions / Injuries. Never seen so many kids go down in one weekend such as last, even our goalie got one after being hit in the head as someone was going through the crease. Concussions are no joke, they take extreme caution with these boys, even some of whom were sent home from school this week. All in all, glad to get the W on the road in NJ. We are the only 16U American team left unbeaten after only a few weeks of play. Next week we have an Elite League Tourney at Comcast, looking forward to playing against some of the teams from the West again.
  12. As for the neck guards.. It really is a shame more kids don't wear them.. Too much of a social outcast in most cases. Kids don't want to be made fun of for looking "Uncool" which is really quite a shame.
  13. We are 1-0-1 in League play.. 3-2 in the Elite League. Played some good teams from Colorado and Dallas in the Elite League. In League play we beat the 1st Place Ct. Wolfpack 10-1 tonight. Pretty happy with the scoring outburst, play them again tomorrow morning. Again, this is Jr. Flyers 16U American. First year that the American teams have an Elite League. A lot of fun last week in Detroit.
  14. Sorry to hear that Mikey.. What you just described was exactly my point.. ITS ALL POLITICAL. It's ridiculous. I am sorry for your son, but as you said, as long as he has fun and enjoys the season, it doesn't matter where he plays. Hell, it would be great if he went back to the Avs and beat the Colonials this season. Goalies, in my opinion, are the most important part of a team at the younger ages, because there are SO MANY lousy goalies. I mean, I couldn't imagine being that age and hauling around that equipment. So of course there are more bad goalies then there are good, but it makes it that much more important to take the best ones. Politics and Hockey shouldn't be together, it's a damn shame that it interferes so often. The kids are the ones who suffer.
  15. Wish I would have seen this thread from the start.. Mikey you are exactly right, Tryouts started last night here for the Jr. Flyers.. My Dad and I were out there scouting over 70 16U players. 17 Goalies. His phone was ringing off the hook this week with parents trying to make sure my Dad and I knew which kids were there. AAA is SO political these days, it's actually sickening, and I've been a part of it for a while now. The problem that most people don't realize is EVERY AAA team has their tryouts the same nights. So the kids who don't make say, our AAA team, will try to bail early on tryouts, and go over to another AAA teams tryout for the 3rd night, just at the chance of making a AAA team. It's really hectic, and you can learn a lot by just listening to the kids talk. I actually had a goalie telling me yesterday he was going to go out for another team, and 2 hours before tryouts his buddy texted him saying "so and so" weren't going to that teams tryouts anymore, so he switched plans, and came to ours. I don't know how the parents do it, I don't know how my Dad did it, and I am not sure how I am going to do it. It's pure craziness this week for all organizations with a AAA program. Good luck to your Son, I hope he makes the team. Try and stay sane this week!
