  2. The Rangers have been careless with their role players over the years. A guy like Hagelin comes to mind. The problem is that these average players find a little success and then they go for the money (see Prust, Brandon or Pouliot, Benoit). It's tough. Obviously if you're the Rangers you don't want to overpay any of these guys, including Fast. Sometimes the onus needs to be in the player. More often than not they're going to go for the money. Zuccarello didn't, year after year because he wanted to stay a Ranger. God bless him. Most players aren't like that. But who knows, maybe Fast really loves his teammates or NY, or some other factors that may keep him in NY for a 'deal'. But he's not a have changer, so if he leaves... no big deal. 3. There's also smart hitting and dumb hitting. Hitting should have a purpose. It's not just going out there and charging whatever moves. Smart, experienced players know the difference (and so do coaches). Sent from my Pixel 4 XL using Blueshirts Brotherhood mobile app powered by Tapatalk
  4. Yeah, but as a purely business decision, why would you retire and forfeit millions of dollars owed to you? Sent from my Pixel 4 XL using Blueshirts Brotherhood mobile app powered by Tapatalk
  5. Also - the Rangers team is a new team. For them to just pick right up where they were in March is a lot harder than a team that has been together for years. That chemistry is a lot easier to dial in when you've done so year in and year out. Having said all that, I did expect more from the top 2 lines. 6. I agree 100% which is why I don't think it's really worth the effort of ripping apart what just happened with Carolina. This is not a final product, it's a team finding out who they are and who they need to be. Gorton and JD saw what we did. They'll make necessary changes. 7. If Hank was willing to take the backup role, I have no problem letting him do that and trying to get something valuable for Georgiev. I'm sure there would be more teams willing to take their chances on a young promising goalie then a guy who is past his prime, more expensive and looking for more of a spotlight. I'm not sure that's what's going to happen but I'd be okay with it. Sent from my Pixel 4 XL using Blueshirts Brotherhood mobile app powered by Tapatalk
  8. If you think back to the 94 team or even the team that lost to the Kings, the one consistency was that everyone knew their roles. Having a Nemchinov allows a player like Messier to do what he was paid to do. There were a lot of role players in both teams. This Rangers team lacks depth. The 3rd and 4th lines don't know their roles. This means guys like Mika, Panarin, Kreider, etc. have to pick up that slack which basically takes away from what they are supposed to be focusing on, namely offense. So to me, they really need to sure up their depth guys. Plus, their defense need a LOT of help. But remember, this is a multi-faceted rebuild and it takes time to put all the pieces together. Next year's team will most likely take another few steps in getting closer to the vision they have. J.D. is a good hockey mind. I think he knows what he wants and needs. It's just a matter of how long it'll take to get there. Sent from my Pixel 4 XL using Blueshirts Brotherhood mobile app powered by Tapatalk
  9. I think what the NYR lack is a true identity. They don't know who they are yet and I think part of that has to fall on Quinn. When Torts was the coach, there was no doubt who they were trying to be. Remember, Davidson didn't hire Quinn, and that plays a part in all things moving forward. Based on the personnel they have now? They are a semi-fast, semi-talented, defensively-challenged team. That's not going to get it done by any stretch. They need depth and grit.to support the talent. When you don't have that you get guys like Chytil playing a role he's not suited for. All part of the rebuild. Sent from my Pixel 4 XL using Blueshirts Brotherhood mobile app powered by Tapatalk
  10. I think it's safe to say that at the beginning of the season no on this forum thought the Rangers has a snowball's chance in hell of making the playoffs. They went on a nice little run after January but this was never a playoff team. I don't think we should be surprised that they were schooled by a much better, playoff ready/experienced team. This was a men vs. boys series. This little 'exhibition' was just gravy for this Rangers team. They're lucky they even got the experience. This is all about the future, not the present. My questions are not about this series. My questions are about who is on this team next year and who isn't. Sent from my Pixel 4 XL using Blueshirts Brotherhood mobile app powered by Tapatalk
  11. Well, if Shesterkin shits the bed, he'll get a pass by fans because either a) he's been hurt, b) he has no experience or c) he was rusty. So I see no fault in starting him and hoping for a spark. As long as he can't reinjure himself it makes all the sense in the world. Even if Henrik was in his prime, after losing 2 games they'd probably go with the backup goalie anyway. Hank may not be happy with the team in front of him but he really has no other excuses for being benched. And I'm a huge Lundqvist fan. 12. Getting a win would go a long way for some of these young guys. Ultimately, this team is going nowhere but a win would provide valuable experience. So do the losses, by the way, but it would be nice for them to know what it takes to win a playoff game. It's all part of the rebuilding process. 13. 1) I admit that Lundqvist gave up 2 goals he should have had and that he's probably done... but if the team in front of him played like this was an actual playoff game rather than a meaningless scrimmage, he'd be getting a lot less crap. I just watched Corey Crawford give up 6 goals. He's not the only goalie giving up goals, you know. Maybe the bar we set for Hank is just crazy high. 2) I know Lindy Ruff wasn't exactly popular but is his absence having any affect on how inept the D looks? 3) Could they try any more east-west passes that get intercepted? 4) Could they try any more north-south passes that get broken up? 5) Do we win any loose puck battles? This team wasn't going to make the playoffs, most likely. And it shows. They don't have an identity yet. They can't figure out if they want to be fast, hard hitting, defensive minded, offensive minded, etc. They're still very young and trying to find themselves. But this team's talent isn't that great either. They need a lot more. Experience isn't going to get this team any closer to a legit Cup run. Better players is.
