  1. If ever there was a case of a team having to move due to bad ownership as opposed to a bad market, this is it.
  2. Trivia: Less than full capacity (what Rangers-Senators playoff games were played before in 2017).
  3. Garden ice has historically been at its worst when the Rangers and Knicks are both in the playoffs and scheduling must be done on the fly rather than as an organized process. God, it was even worse when they had the circus that time of year as well. More than one knee injury resulted at the worst time possible.
  4. Yes, but Ozzy and I also got to enjoy the glorious cups of 1928, 1933 and 1940! And don't leave out @RodrigueGabriel, who may have been following Lester Patrick in the Western League before he brought his outfit to NY to become the Rangers.
  5. For a more apt comparison, look at regulation wins: In a 78 game season: 1970-71 49 1971-72 48 1972-73 47 Through 81 Games 2023-24 42 Records have been bloated since 2005. Before that, you didn't get any shoot out wins and 5 on 5 OT wins were much harder to come by. Before 1983, you couldn't even get an OT win. This is not to say that our second best record since 2005 isn't nice, but it really doesn't rank with our best post-war teams, like the Francis teams or 1991-92 and 93-94.
  6. Most points in loser point shootout era (since 2005) is significant, but calling it the most points in team history is misleading. Please take care of business with Ottawa and play Pitts or Wash rather than TB or Elmont.
  7. I've never forgotten the look on LaFontaine's face after he had just sustained his final concussion.
  8. Not so. Attendance was good for long time after they moved there and did not fall off until the team was bad for an extended period. There are enough Minnesota transplants in AZ to support a hockey team by themselves!
  9. Whether team a team in Atlanta would average 14K, 15K or 17K, it would add more to TV revenue than a team in Columbus does.
  10. The NHL needs to stop giving teams to whoever will build an arena, like Columbus, and move teams to the best TV markets. Houston and Atlanta are vastly larger than Salt Lake City.
  11. I've never completely understood what "they are a hard team to play against" means, but watching Montreal gave me some perspective, because I think they are about the easiest team to play against in the leage. They are loose and forgiving of your mistakes.
  12. In a league where so many teams alternate between hot and cold, none does more so than the Islanders. Lot to play them if they're cold. Not so much when they are hot.
