It was just over a year ago that it was announced that Daniel Day-Lewis would be the star of Steven Spielberg's Abraham Lincoln film. There's no question that the two-time Oscar-winner is an astonishingly gifted actor, but when you're playing a revered American president there will always be questions about whether you can do justice to a mythic figure in U.S. history -- especially when some people refuse to accept Day-Lewis in the role since he's English. But we think most folks will be willing to look past such minor issues after checking out this first photo of Day-Lewis sporting his beard for "Lincoln." You have to admit, the resemblance is pretty striking -- and rather presidential.

He's gonna be amazing. This film is going to be an epic. I have a source on the cast who says the scenes they have filmed thus far are absolutely incredible.

Side note, looking forward to the TV mini-series To Appomattox (2013) even more, with Stephen Lang as Lincoln. It's been really special getting to work for them, unofficially of course.

I think my theatre may have suffered some from Twilight. As soon as I walked into the room for Lincoln I realized that it was playing in one of the smaller stadium theatres, less than half the size of a regular one. I can assume only it was pushed to that theatre to make room for all the teenaged girls watching twilight.

I was a little perturbed to realize that given what a highly regarded film Lincoln was. Not only that we're talking about a movie that has the best actor of our time in it. Quick release is right; it truly is indicative of our nation today and the times.
