I can't think of one good reason why the Canadiens did this other than, let's just call it personality issues.

It wasn't a cap dump, they didn't get a much better player, they got older and slower...there's just nothing you can point to and say yea, smart trade.

Seriously, they had one of the best-skating defensemen in the league, who is basically a public figure in Montreal. He's younger. The contract is basically a wash, even though PK's hit is about 1.2m more than Weber, but Weber's is longer. Ew.

I also love seeing Sergachev play well in Tampa, but that seemed like a more even trade (I think).

At the time, you could better justify the Drouin swap.

But Sergachev has been miles better.
