The Dallas Stars officially have a No. 1 goaltender in Ben Bishop.

 

The team signed Bishop to six-year deal worth $29.5 million on Friday, just three days after acquiring the netminder’s rights from the Los Angeles Kings in exchange for a 2017 fourth-round pick.

One of Niemi and Lehtonen is out. Both will be gone by the end of next season. Too bad there isn't much of a goalie market for a trade.

 

This should help Dallas next year. Now they need blue line help badly.

Their forward group is awful too unless they get massive jumps from virtually all of their young guys (Faksa, Shore, Ritchie)

Not crazy about the deal but I don't think he's done either. Dallas needs to unload Niemi and Lehtonen, a cheaper backup and they're okay.

 

I think having a clear cut starter will make a difference instead of playing goalie carousel.

 

Dallas definitely needs work aside from in net though.

A six-year deal for a 31-year old injury-prone goalie? Yeah, this won't end well.

 

And to think, all of this could have been avoided had Dallas just been willing to part with Julius Honka for Cam Talbot.
