View Full Version : MLB: Cubs-Indians World Series

The Cubs haven't won a World Series since 1908, the Indians haven't won a World Series since 1948, so two long suffering franchises. My wife grew up in the suburbs of Chicago and is a long-time Cub fan, so I'm going to be biased and rooting for the Cubs... but Cleveland fans have been long-suffering as well (there's a reason why the movie(s) Major League featured Cleveland). So it's going to be a great story no matter who wins.

Just a thread for y'all to post any thoughts as the series goes along.

I feel weird rooting for the Cubs for a couple of reasons:
1) I live on the south side and our team is the White Sox
2) I've only lived here for so long...but I don't really follow baseball, so whatever.

Let's go Cubs. This city is already going nuts. There's a Cubs hat/helmet on the Lions at the Art Institute. There's a Cubs Jersey on a dinosaur at the Field Museum. Good stuff.

Looks like the Indians are going to a be thorn to the Cubs side

At least they got a few hits off of Miller who they will be facing a lot this series

It was one game. Keep in mind, the Dodgers also shut out the Cubs 6-0 in a game. Look at where they are now...

IMO its a must win tonight for the Cubs, they dont want to go down 0-2 knowing that they have to still face Kluber 2 times.

Also add in the stupid All-Star game determining the home field.

fletch

Agreed - having ASG exhibition determine home field is amazingly stupid, especially when you look through history and one league will win 7 out of 8.

Coin flip for game 7. Public money will be on the Cubs, so the sharps will bet Cleveland for value for their bets.

Kind of like game 7 in NHL playoff series where 'first goal wins'... not always, but there is huge momentum from scoring the first goal.

Pitching has been so good in this series it may be 'first run wins'... because of the momentum factor. There can be a comeback victory, but that would be epic.

Yes, that first run will be huge and if I were a betting man I'd put it on the Cubs. GO INDIANS !!!

Why in God's name take Lester out when he got you two outs? Let him finish the inning. And yes, I know the strategy behind it. In theory your ace closer can get 4 simple outs. But this is every Cubs fan's nightmare. You're one out away from taking a 3-run lead in to the 9th inning of Game 7 of the World Series, you haven't won in over a CENTURY, and your ace promptly gives up three runs. WITH TWO OUTS. That's pure insanity.

I was rooting for them just so I could say I saw history. But God must it suck to be a Cubs fan. They are cursed...absolutely cursed.

I fucked up in picking a bar that took reservations...
I got there at 445 and put my name on the wait list for a table, surely thinking that by 7pm (central) I'd have a table.
Unfortunately not, so whatever...started drinking anyway. Had a couple of friends meet me at the spot as well. When it was around 11pm and I noticed that all these tables around me had new people and faces, I asked the Host what was up.

I made a gesture.
He made a gesture. (https://media4.giphy.com/media/xR2SI8vqfQMLe/200w.gif#3)

Then I went outside to talk to Jack, came back in, was offered a table.
Went back outside to talk to Jack and said, "it's now or never, want a table?"
She said yes. I went back inside and saw them seat someone else at the table...lol.
I went up to the Host and apologized for making the gesture, but then was grabbed by two guys and tossed. "Don't jerk off like that to my host..."

Whatever. Cubs won.
My stove is broken.
My fiancé is...idk.

Weird night. Bitch needs to eat before drinking.
And I shouldn't make hand gestures...

Joe Madden tried to lose that game with his boneheaded moves, lucky for him the team won.
I would have left Hendricks in to finish the 5th. B/c a guy gets on with 2 outs with a 5-1 lead doesnt mean a pitching change is needed. And you dont bring in a SP especially Lester who cant hold runners on.
Lester ended up pitching well after that 5th inning. Then Maddon is at it again by bringing in Chapman in the 8th after Lester puts on a runner. You were able to tell Chapman had nothing with that first batter he faced, all the pitches were high/outside. Why in the world would you bring in Chapman the night before in a non-save situation?
Then Javy Baez was one of their better hitters during the playoffs and Maddon puts on a bunt with a man on 3rd and 2 strikes. WTF!!!

Overall that was a great game, one to remember with how the Indians were able to come back on Davis' HR in the 8th after he had the bad relay throw earlier in the game from shallow CF. Happy that the Cubs won and got that monkey off their back after 108 years. Theo Epstein the mastermind of slaying the Red Sox and the Cubs ghosts, maybe the Toronto Maple Leafs should hire him.
