Holy fuck. We're seeing more and more of the blod clots. They're most likely from blocking shots, and not healing properly. If it gets you on right spot and doesn't heal right, this is the unfortunate result.

What's crazy is they just lost Strålman, too, not a week or two ago.

Imagine the drama of Stamkos leaving Tampa with a clot and opening the door for Drouin.

I mean, what have they got to lose? Stamkos was never a big playoff performer, but that's a lot of talent effectively gone for the playoffs.

Horrible luck for the Lightning. Wish Stamkos a safe recovery, blood clots can sometimes comeback, hope it's not the issue.

Blood clots effectively ended Vokoun and Dupuis' careers. Hoping the best for him.

In theory if he tests the open market...how much does this hurt his value ? Does it hurt it at all?

Tough luck here. I hope it's not something that continues to reoccur like Dupuis'.

I doubt it affects it. We'll know more in a month, obviously, but it's not like he had a history of battling clots like Vokoun did. Or even Dupuis.

Blood clots are scary given how unknown the outcome can be and flare up anytime. Hopefully he'll be alright health wise in general. I'm pretty sure we've just seen the last of Stamkos in a TBL jersey...

Neither of them were only 26 though. I don't think this is even close to career threatening.

From Frank Seravalli of TSN:

Surgeons will likely remove Steven Stamkos’ top rib on his right side today to alleviate pressure that caused a blood clot to form near his collarbone. “It isn’t a rib like you’d think of, it is much smaller, more like the size of an index finger,” explained Dr. Thomas Forbes, vascular surgeon at Toronto’s Peter Munk Cardiac Centre.

Forbes said that rib, which is bonded by the collarbone, constricts blood flow to the vein and can cause clotting with trauma or repetitive motion, such as raising your arms above your head.
