[I]QUOTE(S) TO NOTE:

"I'm so frustrated right now I don't know where to begin. The way we battled all game, and I think you just
have to play by the rules. The rule is you can't have a guy in the crease. I can't come out to play the shot,
and as a goalie, when you try to make a save, you have a forward motion. And he doesn't make any effort to
get out. And I can't believe the ref, after watching it, not getting it right. That means that you can pretty much
put a guy in the crease, and as long as the goalie doesn't get run over, it's a good goal. That's the way I look
at this call."

I think for the sake of my sanity Yandle needs to have a strong bounce-back game. I've never been a big fan and was one of the one's saying that they should have unloaded him prior to the trade deadline but I was hoping that he would prove me wrong. Someone mentioned that this team is "Jekyl and Hyde" and I agree...with Yandle being the biggest individual culprit.

No worries, it'll be Pavelski cashing in today or Grampa Burns with the other beard feeding them all. Thornton certainly has had a hell of a revival this year. Talk about highlight reel assists and his skating actually has looked great all year. At least he isn't a speed demon, so maybe G or Boyle or Staal can stay close to him. Couture and his line may cause problems for us if McD and Klein are watching line 1.

Good start on the road. Really wish Lundqvist would just catch the fuckin puck instead of doing that soccer shit. It's only a matter of time before he deflects one off of McDonagh's back and into the net. Then somehow he'll stare down Girardi.

Serious

If he was on a long term contract (4 years) around 3 per year he may have been worth that trade.

But talk about a terrible value for a rental so far
Points in 1 out of 10 games so far?

That play that led to the 3rd goal (I think it was the 3rd goal) is a microcosm of him all in one play. He stick-handles too slowly at the offensive blue line, gets the puck poke checked (of course), sits there staring dumbly for a second, and then skates like me trying to get back in the play. I think management should have been clued in that Hayes work ethic is shit when he didn't sign with Chicago as he would have to go to the AHL. He didn't want to do the work to get better and become an NHLer and it shows now. If I see him do another spin-o-Rama and shot attempt below the goal line, I might throw my remote away. Full comments from people if you didn't see them:
http://nypost.com/2016/03/19/henrik-lundqvist-storms-off-as-rangers-suddenly-getting-ugly/

This was damning in so many ways, and when team president Glen Sather walked into the Rangers locker room, he didn’t need to tell them — though he almost surely did, in no uncertain terms.

Because as Sather said while walking to the room, the 4-1 loss to the Sharks on Saturday afternoon at SAP Center was “embarrassing.” His players didn’t need to share the message of their boss. It was clear in their own harsh self-criticism.

“I think if we have any realization or desire to do what we want to do, that type of game at this time of year is garbage,” alternate captain Marc Staal said. “We have to be better.”
...

“It seemed like guys weren’t willing to compete hard, and that’s a very hard thing to say, but you have to admit it sometimes,” captain Ryan McDonagh said. “Our group simply gave away two points. It’s very uncharacteristic.

“The way Hank was playing, that’s very disappointing — we left him out to dry.”

...

“It was 4-1, and [Lundqvist] was by himself,” Vigneault said. “It had been enough.”

...

“For two periods, I felt as good as I felt in a long time,” Lundqvist said. “Even the last couple games, I tried to make that extra save, but it just hasn’t been enough. Together, we need to figure it out. I need to make more saves, if that’s the only way.”

...

“We have to look at what our next job is, and that’s home to MSG,” McDonagh said of Monday’s contest against the Panthers. “Compete hard for one another and look each other in the eyes and know that we gave it [all] for one another — after that game.”

Some really damning stuff. If the issue is that this team truly didn't care or they're sleeping through games, then if this isn't a wake up call then I don't know what is.

I guess we'll see in the home stretch.

Agreed
You've been around enough locker rooms Dunny to know Pete was spot on here. We as fans see 1% of what is said. I'd venture further and say any professional hockey player willing to publicly air out the team's laundry or show "passion" with the media has probably lost the respect of his teamates.

A calculated push or phrase to the media may be about all you may see. Anything more than that comes off as a drama queen

Phil in Absentia
03-20-2016, 07:04 PM
All of the above is why I've said for years that the one aspect fans have no business criticizing is the captaincy and team letters. We see like 3% of the entirety of the "season", which are actaul games. But players don't stop being leaders when the game buzzer sounds. It's a 24/7 job, so clearly, the coaching staff and management know a helluva lot more than we do as to who is or isn't an effective leader.

Agreed on all counts.
There are different styles of leadership, and Messiers was what I would consider extreme.

It didn't have to take place during his Edmonton years, Messier may have been the passion, but that team was Gretzkys.

It worked in New York, but would have been difficult to fail with that roster. And I'd question all of his leadership after that, there in New York and also in Vancouver.
